The S10 does have a night mode of sorts , if the sensor detect low light it will take i think 7 shots hand held and 15 on a tripod and combine them. Nobody seems to mention it in reviews, they just concentrate on point and shoot software night modes of the Pixel and Huawei phones which just make the shots look as if they were taken in daylight. If i take a night shot i want it to actually look like it was night.
@insanebmxthomas5 жыл бұрын
i reallllly hope that promised camera update comes soon. I guess Brent showed us that it can actually take pictures of the stars. So if Samsung introduces a real-deal night mode with algorithm software it might be a real nice camera in 'normal' low light conditions (for such an allround phone).

Hey, when i compare my pictures of pro and normal mode. The normal mode pictures has way more crisp and sharpness while that of pro are slightly blurry. How do i fix that ?
@BrentHall4 жыл бұрын
That's because Samsung adds a lot of contrast, saturation, and sharpening to the images when it compresses them to jpeg. Pro mode gives you the option of shooting in raw, which is all the data from the sensor with no editing or compression. I have a video about it, raw vs jpeg. You can add the sharpening to your raw images in whatever editing app or program you use.

Very nice tutorial. For someone who isn't a pro photographer this is really nice. It's really sad that most smartphone users just point and shoot, they simply don't mess with settings which is a crime in 2019-2022. ▪︎Using the camera features, pre-editing and post-editing settings makes your pic quality 100x better! I've learned a lot about the pro mode on s10. Thanks for the great video! By the way, what do you mean "10 stop ND and a CP" for the long exposure photos
@garrettdrew48295 жыл бұрын
You need to buy a 62mm filter adapter first. Then buy 62mm, 10 Stop variable (Neutral Density) ND filter &/or (Circular Polarizing) CP filter. The filters basically control the amount of bright light coming in, thus creating a smoother image with the motion blurs you want in slow shutter speed waterfall images.
@BrentHall5 жыл бұрын
The ND and CPs are filters, neutral density and circular polarizers. I use them when I need long exposures during the day time for things like waterfalls and light trails and blurring people out of busy city scenes. I have a number of videos explaining what they are and how they work, and some other videos on how/why/when to use filters specifically with smartphones. There are some filters that fit over moment lenses, which like Garrett said, you need an adapter for, but there are other ones that just clip on over your phone's lens. Here's a video I did about what they are and how they work: kzbin.info/www/bejne/f4bVg4eOn5dqqdU and here's one about using them with phones: kzbin.info/www/bejne/qovbqZ6vpdaBhqs

@BrentHall5 жыл бұрын
Thanks, I'm glad it helped! The raw option will not give inherently better image quality or resolution, it will only help the image to hold better to more post processing since it will not throw away any of the data from the sensor, which is what happens when your phone formats the image to a jpeg.

Great Video. What settings would you put for taking photos of The Northern Lights?
@BrentHall3 жыл бұрын
It really depends on the scene. The lights can fluctuate and move quite quickly so it makes longer exposures harder because you can blur them out if your shutter speed is too long. On the downside, it's still night, and usually quite dark out, so you might want/have to crank up your iso if you want a proper exposure.

You're welcome, I'm glad it helped! I couldn't give you any specific settings to try without being there and trying it out though. every scene is different. If it's at night then you'll probably want to increase your shutter speed first, and then if that's not enough, start raising your iso.

How did you setup your tripad and the grip to attouch your phone? I badly need your expertise. Thank you!

Great video. very useful information. A question - Do you just use clip on ND filters for the shots ans which do you recommend? Thanks.
@BrentHall5 жыл бұрын
Thanks! I used to use them, but I've been using some different filters for my moment lenses lately. Both systems I use should be linked in the video description. I've also made videos on both the clip on filters and filters for the moment lenses.

Thank you so much for the video. Can you please share some tips on like how to use S10 for normal pictures. My pics are kind of blurry most of the times

So what's the best app replacement for the now missing video pro mode? I literally need to find one in the next two days and was hoping your video on it would have already been out. Can you give me a name or two to check out?

Hey, sorry man. I'm trying to get to it. I've been really busy with my actual photo/videography business and clients, and Brittany (my main camera lady) has been really sick, so we're trying to catch up and get that video done. Anyways, the only two I could personally recommend are Filmic Pro and the Moment app. Both have their own pros and cons though. Filmic Pro has more features, but it costs $15, and another $15 if you want their cinematographer's pack (which is not completely necessary), and moment only costs like $2 or something, but it's not as feature-packed. Both will allow you to manually control the important stuff, like shutter speed, ISO, WB, and both will let you film in 1080 or 4K 24 fps, but neither has access to the higher frame rates, so you won't be bale to do slow motion with either app.

@@BrentHall Thanks for the suggestions! I got caught by surprised when I was out on a project and flipped my camera to pro mode only to find the video button missing. I'll check out Filmic Pro. $30 is not a lot when it comes to software and I don't need slow motion. Hope Brittany is feeling better soon!

2 questions: 1) what does it mean "ND" or "CP" example at 8:05 2) what tripod do you recommend for a S10+ ?

Neutral density and circular polarizer filters. I have many videos on how and why to use both. All the gear I use and recommend is linked in the video description, and I also made a video on the best tripods for smartphones. 😁

Hi Brent. Thank you for all your explanatory videos. What I would like to ask is about a specific setting or tools (filters, etc.) for capturing the Sun. This Monday, September 7, 2020, around 7am, the Sun looked like a giant orange ball. Thanks to either marine layer or clouds, you could easily enjoy that without squinting. As much as I tried to get it with my Galaxy S10, no success. Could you please, give suggestions or directions how to capture that? Thank you again.

First and easiest thing is to make sure your HDR is turned on. If the sun is still too bright and you're in auto mode, then you can adjust the exposure compensation and bring it down. You can also go over to pro mode and adjust your shutter speed until you're happy with the exposure.

@@BrentHall About 20 minutes ago I tried again. I even used 3rd party app - FV Camera 5. Still not WYSIWYG. Surrounding gets too dark. I wish I could send you those.

I just sent those to Light Benders Visuals FB account as message attachments.

Thanks man! I use moment filters for my phones these days. Links for all the stuff I use should be in the video description. I don't really mess around with mobile video editing, but I've heard good things about Adobe Rush.
