I am a psychologist thanks to this game. Of course, you do not do an entire career just for a videogame (I have more reasons), but this helped to decide. Hell, I made essays about every single character in this game, (Black and Calypso are the exception because they do not seem to be insane). Me too but sadly it was a one off. The creator just wanted to remain relevant bc what was edgy and cool in the 90s wasn't by the time this came out so they went full stop. Now the term cool isn't synonyms with edgy like it was in the early 2000s. So even tho I love the world twisted metal will never be like this. If it does cone back it will be more colorful and goofy. But jaffe did say that the onky thing he liked about this gane was the world so who knows. If the right people approach him and really push on expanding this world he might budge. Even if it's nit a twisted metal game, I just want more of whatever this style is
@overcastskyline17474 ай бұрын
@@Goose21995 jaffe wasnt trying to be edgy at all with tm black, if you know twisted metals history, twisted metal has ALWAYS been a dark series, he has never given into trends, making light hearted funny tm games, they were all dark games and actually got even darker as time progressed, more deranged but with brighter color pallets.
@Goose219954 ай бұрын
@@overcastskyline1747 watch the documentary that was included on tm lost before commenting something like that. It's literally him and his team explaining for 30 min how they had to go out of thier way to make it overly edgy and in his own words what was edgy in 94 wasn't anymore so they had to really ramp up the edgyness without trying too hard and the game suffered for it bc it was too dark and colorless.
@overcastskyline17474 ай бұрын
@@Goose21995 thats not what im talking about, what he meant with that statement was that he tried experimenting with something new, videogames in the early 2000s were becoming more and more censored due to controversies, esrb discussions and graphics advancing, jaffe pushed it to the limit with black, dude tried putting a video of a drowning baby in the game, that was not a trend in the 2000s.

The first time you launch this game and the "Paint it Black" rift plays I felt that the game would be entirely different to any previous entry. I was about 10 when TM Black came out and boiiii was I not prepared for how much 'darker' this game was in comparison to its previous entries. The narration, the music, the atmosphere, this game had it all. To date, I think it still has one of the best selection menus, its pure art. I'm hoping one day we'll get a true sequel to this game. TM (2012) had a similar art style to Black but was too different for me to really enjoy it as much.

So there i was me my mom and my cousins were in the room and when sweet tooth said "shut up and bleed you motherfucker" we all laughed and i turned to my mom and was like "nice game mom, great choice" but it was so fun. From then on my mom didnt care about swearing ir violence but when the stripper scene in dead to rights came on she kicked me out the room and had my older cousin finish it. Its funny how anti sexual things were back then but extreme horrifyingly gritty violence was A okay but 1 sideboob and it was game over. Good times tho.

It all really started with mortal kombat and doom, everyone wanted to have the COOLEST and most boundry pushing games. But after 911 a lot of that died down. Now a days a game like this woukd never fly with sony. Just look how everyone reacted to hatred and that was rather tame and very tongue in cheek but people called it a mass shooter simulator. Postal (1997) had basically the same premise and had the tone of TM:black and nobody orotested against it or anything. This game woukdnt have even made it past the studios own PR dep.

TM4 was one of the first games I ever played on my brother’s PS1. I was maybe 3 or 4 at the time. After that, I had to have them all. My parents bought me TM2 & 3 at some point and they were my favorite games. I would draw cars with guns and flames on them in preschool, and the teachers pulled my parents aside one day to talk about what I was drawing. My parents were like yeeeah, he really likes this game called twisted metal. He has a bunch of hot wheels too and he’s always smashing them together, making gun noises, etc… I don’t think that made the teachers any less concerned. Even as a kid, I knew it was violent and could separate the cartoonish, and low-pixel-count characters in the game from reality, so it was always light-hearted fun to me. Then one day in 2001, I played Twisted Metal Black at my older cousin’s house during a party and it fucked me up. I had terrible nightmares about Brimstone in particular. I couldn’t get the image of the guy impaled by his car out of my head. The grounded and darker tone of black and the PS2’s graphical power completely shattered any illusions I had about Twisted Metal at that age. That brief experience probably did something to me on a deeper level at the time than I can really remember. It was one of my first memories of being truly disturbed by a piece of media. I don’t think I played it again for a few years until I got my own PS2. It became my favorite in the series as I grew older and played darker games, but man, that first experience 23 years ago still sits with me. It really is special how a developer was willing to gamble and turn an iconic and goofy IP into something as fucked up and raw as TMB, while also making it the most mechanically sound entry in the series’ history at the time.

"WAILER" from SpectraSonics Distorted Reality, in fact you can just ask me anything about it apart from one or two which I am still researching. In fact, the main melody is composed from transposed/chorded elements of " DesertCall" (but was spliced and cut into a seamless loop) from the album Zero-G's Seismic Frequencies, from which Metal Glide 2 (2:10) is heard. A lot of the sounds are also from not only the aforementioned but the Rarefaction POKE in the EAR with the SHARP STICK album (a funny name but is in fact real)

Huh. Almost 21 years when Twisted Metal Black came out in June 2001. And I did my 20th anniversary for this amazing game. When I was 4 in 2001, my brother told me it was a racing game. I thought it was but it just like one of them demolition derby types. And this game scared me. Sweet Tooth, the gameplay, and the girl scream such as Darkside, Spectre and Shadow. And for that, I just wanted to say thank you for the Twisted Metal games. Because TMB was my favorite. And yes I heard there was gonna be another Twisted Metal Black 2 but it was cancelled. I don't know if it was the the 6 key members who died in a plane crash coming back from Colorado from a skiing trip? Or I don't know. I just heard it from the game. So thank you Twisted Metal. God I miss those days.

The older brother of my classmate at the time (mark) was much older than us and occasionally took the piss out of us because we were still 8-9 years old. One day he came up to us and said he wanted to show us a car game where you can drive and there's lots of action. Of course, I immediately said yes because the best thing that could happen with mark was that we could play on his Playstation 2. He opened a game and started explaining that the game was cursed and that anyone who started playing it had to finish it otherwise they would have nightmares for the rest of their lives. Of course, as stupid as we were, we bought it and forced ourselves to play the game. I was so scared playing but the fear of quitting was even worse. That really was a day I will never forget. When the cutscene from Crazy8 after the minion boss fight played later that day I couldn't hold back my anger and went off on mark's brother and tearfully punched him why he would do that to us and then mum came in and mark's brother got grounded and banned from playstation and she told us it was just a game and he had invented the nightmare thing. Marks brother if you are reading this I hate you and thank you for letting me play such an awesome game for hours full of hate and sadness.

My god did Sweet Tooth give me nightmares as a kid! There was this one time when I was 5, my sister and I were in my uncles’ room because we always liked watching them play games on their PS2. The game they chose that day was TM: Black! As soon as the menu appeared on screen my sister and both my uncles bolted out the room, turned off the light, and held the door shut leaving me all alone with Sweet Tooth’s scary smile on the screen!!! I was crying and screaming from the top of my lungs banging on the door thinking Sweet Tooth was going to crawl out of TV and murder me!!! Luckily dad came to my rescue and I remember just sobbing in his arms! Thankfully that damn clown doesn’t scare me as much as he used to! 😅

I know no face couldn’t see, but I couldn’t see clearly…and like him I still kicked ass in the battleground. Hell, I beat the story with him while I was still squinting at the screen, in early 03

Well, after Needles and John Doe sang the Thong Song at this year's underwhelming Summer Games Show, I actually began going through the old Twisted Metal games through downloaded roms and emulation (look, I don't want to give my money to scalpers, okay?). I feel that although the franchise can work with either the campy awesomeness of the original tetralogy or the darkness of Black, Black is easily the highlight because... LISTEN TO THIS! It instantly sets up the darker tone and gets you accustomed to the fact that things will be much different this go around after the franchise got too wild with 4. It saves the series, and it slaps. As someone who played it, I can say that this is the video game equivalent of Macross Plus: a followup to a popular series which is so good that it almost renders every prior entry redundant and dooms future installments to either be trapped in its shadow at best or be incredibly bad at worse.
