True that, I was 7 years old and believe it or not my dad took me to the theatre to see this. Everything was so realistic and while amazing and well done, it also gave me a healthy fear for tornadoes. Hard to believe they made a remake of this, but I am not sure I want to see it, knowing that in most ways this movie will always outweigh remakes.

Even a mile away, a tornado that size would cause grave harm to a human just by its wind speeds. Just the hail alone would kill someone with a headshot. Such bs but still a great classic!

The only time i watched this movie i was around 10 or 11 and me and my family were beyond sick. We were all out in the living room watching movies with a 5 gallon bucket for each of us for when we threw up next. My grandma turned on the movie and i remember bits and pieces of it. This scene stuck with me and I cannot get over this movie. It was so well done and so perfecrly executed. The dramatic music and the sounds of the tornado in the background. The way that not only were the odds all against Jo and Bill, but the way the tornado seemed to be alive with the way it chased them and threw things at them so perfectly. Out of everywhere those things couldve gone, they went after jo and bill every time. The tornado seemed even more alive when it stopped right over jo and bill after chasing them for what feels like an eternity, and it stays over them. Waiting for the ropes to break. My heart was racing because i was so scared for them while i rewatched this scene.

Just saw the new film and really liked it. I only wished there was a reference to these characters, even a photo. I was looking for it but found nothing, which was kind of disappointing. It wasn't necessary, but it would have been nice. There are character archetypes similar to the main antagonist from the original, which I think was a nice nod.

Why is it that this film, which was made over 25 years ago, has more powerful, realistic, and tense scenes ? Mark Mancina's score is great as well. It's said that human IQ has dropped 13 points since its peak, but has the quality of filmmaking declined as well ?

It's better because not only was it a new concept that has stood the test of time, but CGI was expensive so they did workarounds. I think they had to prove this movie would work, so they put a lot into test footage, and the incredible audio and practical effects, that are as good if not better than today's standards. Movies now are lazy, with mediocre actors and/or writers. Everyone is rushing to get films on their streaming platforms they lose their appeal. But what can I say I'm nostalgic when it comes to movies, and I was in my 20's when this movie came out.

The only thing with the new twisters movie is that everybody was competing to get to the twisters and see who could eliminate the twisters first or try to analyze the tornadoes 🌪️ to see who can get to it first and be the first to take on such power, not only that but Glen Powell who plays: Tyler Owen’s was super cocky, overly cocky and went INTO the Tornados 🌪️ he acted like he was better than everyone else and he used his truck and drilled It into the ground so that way they can be directly into the storm.

I just rewarched this movie after I purchased it on Apple TV. And they added sound effects that wasn’t there before. Like fake electricity noises at every lighting scene and it’s so unnatural. The movie was unrealistic before but so well done, now they put more sound effects to it that cheapens the movie. So wish I could get my money back. They made a classic into a cheap plastic movie.

@@GigiGarcia9369 Yes they could. In 1997, the Jarrell, Texas F5 tore limbs off people and cut through cattle like it was nothing..... Jo and Bill would only have bones left.... it's horrible i know, but a twister at this slow moving pace with such severe winds....

​@Firemarioflower The implications that there would be "only bones left" assume the possibility of a tornado sheering the skin off of people, which, is not possible given that tornados can only reach a theoretical maximum windspeed of roughly 350 miles per hour, and it would take windspeeds in excess of 16,000 miles per hour to break the tension in human skin and cause it to rip apart. People lost limbs in the Jarrel Texas tornado due to flying debris and collapsing buildings. Wind alone, while it certainly can kill you by lifting you up into the air and having you fall back to the ground, it cannot rip you apart limb from limb or sheer your skin off. The human body is much stronger than some people think.

I was cool with the movie other than them surviving that. They wouldn't and no self respecting tornado enthusiast now or 30 years ago would believe it. I blame studio execs and whatever dumb test audience they probably used.
