Google Maps only takes a single scan of the area. So certain places have specific season, a specific color-tint on the lighting, specific everything. You just cross-reference in your memory, like "What places have: dry dirt, yellowish-tint, raining during the scan, etc." There are people who have memorized 200,000 page books, it's not impossible to believe people can memorize what is essentially a lookup table. It's the same way my Geology professor can look at a 1mm sample of a rock for 2 seconds and know what mineral it is. (Check its streak, whether is scratches glass, etc.) I remember he speedran 50 minerals in class once, it was quite cool.
