It's actually much worse. Tumblr at least actes as a containment zone for artist drama, but twitter turns every last artist that joins for attention into a rabid political activist and actually makes most of them straight up stop doing art altogether in leiu of twitter ragebaiting poltical clout chasing.

Well, to play devil's advocate a little, it's really more of a problem with how Xwitter works than anything else - since any kind of image (art or otherwise) gets thrown into the Media tab, and there's 0 way for artists to curate their feed to make it easier for people to find just their artwork. Artists acting defensive about posting memes / reaction images that spill into their media tab is definitely still bad on their end - but it doesn't surprise me to see more and more flocking to Bluesky, as beyond all the other shit happening to Xwitter that affects artists (AI training on all Xwitter posts, with or without user consent lol), there are options there for artists to curate their feeds if people are seeking out just an artist's artwork. Bluesky's still got a ways to go in beating out Xwitter in terms of active users and popularity, but Xwitter sure loves to keep shooting itself in the foot when it comes to its recent policy changes.

@@lolzu That's what most of the bigger ones tend to end up doing - probably the best workaround that Xwitter has to the lack of separate feeds. I can imagine it's probably a bit annoying for artists to have to bounce between multiple accts. Xwitter does let you manage multiple accounts at once though, so ig thats something. Regarding pinned art though - afaik, you can only pin 1 post at a time - so beyond an artist using it for their most recent piece (which most don't - usually it's comms info or smth like that), it's not really an ideal option, at least imo.

Trust me, everyone does feel this way - unfortunately, X is formatted in a way designed to keep you in an endless and mindless scroll, feeding into your anger. The algorithm sees what you hate, and keeps giving you it, thus keeping you engaged with all that dopamine that can easily be used for better things. This is a difficult method for many people, given the predatory nature of the website, but I have been practising this method where if I see a post I disagree with or one that makes me snap, I close the app. After all, I'm not obligated to reply to it, nor quote retweet with some shitpost image implying the person they're retweeting said something stupid or either portray them as a crying caricature who is also pregnant. I'll admit I've relapsed occasionally on this method quite a bit, but the best thing you can do is simply brush it off and say, "gg ez" - if you're able to stay on this, you basically will not have to endure a predatory business model. Then again, it's more easier, healthier and simpler to delete the app all entirely.

Artistic jealousy is unfortunately a very real and a very common phenomenon. I remember asking my graphic novel professor how can I overcome jealousy of other people's art and she mentioned how there's a lot of famous and successful artists who she thinks their art is objectively bad but it shows that being successful doesn't mean being having a perfect style and instead of being jealous towards other artists look at their art and take what you like from it and put it into your own work. Her advice has definitely improved my perfectionist mentality.

(Rant ahead) Damn the part about criticism is freakishly accurate. I noticed it very blatantly with an artist I've followed for 5 years now. One day he made a tweet asking the public to not give him criticism, because he wanted to take care of his mental health and he may take even well intentioned criticism badly. I thought "alright, I can understand not wanting insults in his comment section or even asking his follower to not word their comments too harshly but plainly asking to not give criticism sounds a bit extreme" so I suggested him to close the comment section for a while. Then he blatantly told me "It's just that I still want compliments" and I was quite literally taken aback, flabbergasted, even. I'm all for being open about mental health and taking it seriously but this feels like wanting an ego boost. You can't just post something on a public social network and ask people to absolutely not criticize you, specially when you make commissions or paid work. Learning how to take criticism is an important part of being a professional artist because you have a public to please. This is toxic positivity, if you only tell an amateur artist that everything they do is good they would never improve, in fact, given enough time they may get worse. The artist I was talking about said that like two years ago and today I'm noticing his artwork is getting a bit... simpler, it doesn't have the vibrance and detail it had before and the anatomy and shading are sometimes amiss. It doesn't feel like a change of style but rather more like he's cutting corners or not putting too much effort because his fanbase won't give him criticism. So just a final tip for amateur artists, have a concise idea of what you want to achieve with your art style and take the public critiques that you think will help you achieve that goal

They post art for free, and in case they need advice: they are going to ask for it, likely someone they trust and someone who knows what they want to achieve with their work. Let them figure everything out on their own, it is not a Randy Randerson's job to put that artist on the path of improvement, spare yourself the trouble Also how could you know what caused the decline of skill they're experiencing? @fooeygoo that artist does paid work shown to a public, he's a professional not a hobbyist, I specified it textually, that's the gist of my argument, my comment is directed at artists who want to become professionals (or at least semi professionals) and how to tackle criticism which they will be subjected to constantly. This is specially important in the Latin American art community because in places like my country inflation is eating up wages for unskilled workers which comprise the majority of amateur artists, to be able to even draw we need to pay bills and for that we need to be at least semi professional and take commissions constantly, it's our only way to get access to dollars which are more stable than our currencies. But as there are *plenty* of artists offering their services so we *need* at least an acceptable quality in our works to get commissions so improvement and criticism are a necessity for us. We *need* to know what people like, what they dislike and what appeals more to the majority and we can't know that if we close up to criticism. Specially since art tuition isn't available for everyone and many of us are self taught That's why I stressed the importance of knowing *what* you want to achieve with your art, this is literally me parroting what many pros online always say when teaching art, you have to know what you want to achieve with your art so you can choose to take criticism or not and what kind of criticism to take. Some artists may want to be hobbyists, others may want to be professionals, some may want to be hobbyists but they also have bills to pay. The first one can ignore everything I wrote because this isn't directed to them

As I am a Twitter artist, I draw by hand, unfortunately I had already seen a lot of people like that in the art community, and about the dramas and toxicity of the art community and it is true which I can affirm. I stay away from any drama and negative things in Twitter, I would make random drawings while putting on headphones listening to music on KZbin. I make fanart drawnings inspired by characters from games that I played on the computer, sometimes I would draw a fan-made drawing of the digital cartoons I watched on KZbin.

Picked a bit of a broad category of AI to hate on. Generative AI includes text generation, and generating code specifically makes some of my tasks a lot easier. You can also use custom text models to mess around with roleplaying, which a friend of mine has a lot of fun doing. Image generation is also nice if you're into it to mess around with or you're actually a developer. Further iterations could very well replace a good chunk of artists, but as it currently stands my google image search results are now filled with generated slop and I'm not sure the damage can be undone.
