Two (2) DUI convictions affects immigration relief. New decision out.

So a big question I’m in Illinois. I have been a resident since 2005 I have first dui 2008 which is court supervision. At age 18. And 2nd dui. At age 26 2016 is the conviction. Would that make me only have 1 conviction? I want to apply for citizenship or can I just renew my green card

This is more for people who are in removal/deportation proceedings. My gut feeling says that you should be ok to file your citizenship. However, you should get a consultation with a local immigration attorney. Law vary slightly depending on the circuit court where you are in.

Why do lawyers take money then if 2 duis disqualify them for cancelation of removal? I don't understand we are doing through this now. 20k later and nothing but bad news.

Is it not a automatic disqualification but it is a high burden to overcome. This change happened about 2-3 years. Every case needs a defense, even cases that are not strong. Also, attorneys need to preserve the record for an appeal and possible changes in the laws.

bro as soon as you file for your papers with her, You can even have up to 3 duis before anythin bad happening to you

My lawyer is waiting to see what’s goin to happen because if I don’t get the ovi charge then I might be able to keep Daca but if I do get that charge I’ll most likely lose it so I want to have a plan b and that would be applying for green card marriage
