That drone shot of Portland almost beats the drone shots in Ireland! I think the most interesting pictures come when nature meets culture: the mountain in the background gives perspective on the city in the foreground. In Schwäbisch Hall you get a prime example of the old town / culture, and in Ireland you get a prime example of the nature (- well the fact that the fields there seemed to be used by man / for agriculture gave us both, but the contrast was slight / extensive agriculture / sheep on grass pretty much count as in-tune with nature. But that mountain in the Portland picture seems almost mythical. Reminded me of the first Lord of the Rings movie...

4:54 I feel it‘s even like a little turning point in their conversation, when the chemistry between them really kicks in / clicks in. Before they were using little test-balloons, while half of their mind was still holding back and watching the scene: how does he react / how does she react etc. - but all of a sudden they feel confident in each other and really start playing ball back and forth, enjoying the situation / each others presence to the fullest, without needing to carefully watching themselves for saying something stupid. - Not sure who gave the signal, if NALF lured her out, or if something happened from her side, maybe body language - I think there was a cut in the video right before that? Edit: there is quite some cuts in the video: would have loved to see more of the interaction. Edit2: makes me feel like a vampire: partaking in others peoples emotions via authentic KZbinrs, instead of meeting up with people myself... (I mean KZbin of course is for sharing interesting new thoughts and experiences, but it is also AT LEAST as much about partaking in others emotions: all the cute cat, dog, baby content, the animal rescue channels etc. - I can‘t watch theoretical physics and space news all day, can I? - there were times when I thought NALF should share more of the things he finds interesting: like books or music or thoughts about life in general, but I guess there are other channels for that, and he can do what he is doing best: show us his interactions with the „real world“ - take us with him on his life‘s journey.

If you want to switch the conversation to German again, just say something in German yourself. From what I hear this is a real problem in the Netherlands for foreigners, the people here switch to English quickly to accommodate, but that means foreigners have a hard time learning Dutch. After getting out of the Air Force, I got my degree in German from the University of Illinois. I am ashamed that I still am not really fluent, but then, I have absolutely no natural talent for foreign languages. I have little problem in everyday conversation, but don't consider myself fluent. I learned German by rote, constantly repeating words and phrases. Obviously, having a German wife is a great help, especially since she was trained as a secretary and was really good at German grammar. Over the years, we made many trips back to Germany. My wife and boys used to go spend the summer with Oma und Opa, and I would join them for a couple weeks at the end of their stay. Unfortunately, my wife of 49 years past away 4 years ago. @panca7885 жыл бұрын
Don't judge the north before you have been there ;) We do have half timbered houses here, I live in one. And the Grünkohl Tour...welllllll actually it's not just walking around getting drunk, maybe Hamburg adapted it like that. But you're supposed to do the northern sport called 'Boßeln' first. Which pretty much is throwing a ball on the street and trying to get it down with lesser throws than the opposite team. And every time you pass a crossroad, you gotta drink. And in between you also gotta drink. Gotta stay warm ;) Grünkohl tastes amazing. It looks a little like spinach but tastes a lot different, it's really good. You usually eat it with potatoes and sausages, either Pinkel or Mettwurst. Mhhhhhh :D

I agree with Nalf - south is much nicer - pine trees, views, hills, winding roads, the "Hirschsprung and Höllental"- I am from the "Wiesental" with a castle on a hill. I love the Basel Christmas Market in Switzerland. She is right, with understanding the people from north better - they are more relaxed and friendly too. It is nice there for a while to breath through and feel free, because it is so flat there - BUT I only moved 3 hours away from home - to Stuttgart and I felt like a stranger - they did not understand what I mean, when I talked. At home, there is a kind of deep understanding, when you talk in dialect. It is more "out of the heart". You feel more accepted or understood or I don´t know - it is difficult to describe. I miss the Black Forest, the smell of the pine, hay and chocolate smell in the air from my hometown. We miss the things you can see and do in G. a lot. Stuttgart christmas market is great to, they even have a small train you can sit on and drive through the model train town.

@lubitsch92555 жыл бұрын
Before you two dig your graves even deeper regarding architecture: a) I'm not sure what lamblike is talking about. Houses with gables aren't exclusive to Europe and were only for no compellingly good reasons pushed out of favor in this century for flat roofs b) half-timbered houses exist pretty much everywhere in Germany except for southern Bavaria. Nalf you're spectacularily wrong about the north especially Hamburg was one of the largest half-timbered towns ever before various events reduced their number. The regions with the most and "best" half-timbered houses are southern Lower Saxony, Northern Hesse, Franconia and especially the Harz mountains ... or to put it simply the middle of Germany. You and lamblike should meet in the middle between Schwäbisch Hall and Hamburg which is roughly around Kassel to see some ... I'll give you a tour :-).
@Warentester5 жыл бұрын
Timbered houses tend to react somewhat heated to incendiary bombs, so you will find less of them anywhere between the UK and their targets in the industrial areas. So you just find more of them in the south left standing.

Thumbs up for NALF, the big defender of our beautiful romantic South, although I have to admit that Lamb is right too: "Grünkohl und Pinkel" is really good. It is indeed the best contribution of the North to the German Cuisine and can compete with Knödel, Spätzle, Schnitzel, Schupfnudeln, Maultaschen, Dampfnudeln, (schwäbischer) Kartoffelsalat and all the other culinary highlights which the South invented. BTW you make a nice couple.
