​@@victoriaperez7335 Well in the books it's because Monkey King killed Macaque (although they weren't friends and didn't know each other existed in the books) and in the show they used to be best friends and apart of a brotherhood to take down the Jade Emperor but they lost and Monkey King was trapped under a mountain by the Buddha. When he was released he became Tripitaka's disciple and protected him on his journey to the west but the brotherhood thought Monkey King had betrayed them and tried to fight him. Macaque pretended to be Monkey King and hurt Tripitaka, which made Monkey King mad and he killed Macaque. Stabbing his right eye and that's why Macaque was revived by the LBD and blind in his right eye.

You know one thing I just noticed with the version of the story lmk is telling is that Xuanzang is the one to break the mountain with his power not Wukong, and ALSO that Wukong receives the circlet IMMEDIATELY upon release NOT after arguing with Xuanzang’s teachings and running off, he’s not even given the chance to agree to take the journey/follow Xuanzang on his own. ALSO ALSO the circlet isn’t hidden/given to Tang by Guanyin it seems to be manifested by Xuanzang’s own power? Guanyin seems to maybe not exist in this universe? It could be why Bajie was found cooking humans rather than Guanyin extracting a no more eating human’s promise from him. Also maybe why Red Boy didn’t become her disciple? I know they made him an actual baby during the time of the journey in lmk for some reason but still. Ahhh I’m starting to get really rambly with this, I’ll go write about this on another platform or something.
