Two "chopsticks" hold up the bridge, how did China do it?

China's remarkable Jin'an Jinsha River Bridge, known as the world's largest span mountain suspension bridge, has created numerous records since its inception in 2016 and is a crucial part of the Chengdu-Lijiang Expressway. With a main bridge length of 1,681 meters and a span of more than 1,386 meters, the bridge utilizes 78,000 kilometers of steel wire, culminating in a structure that can withstand its own weight and the impact of strong earthquakes.
The bridge comprises strong bridge towers, a deep foundation with 32 piles, and durable anchors buried in 73-meter deep tunnels. The bridge's two steel cables alone weigh up to 15,000 tons, providing robust support for the bridge deck.
Considering the climate and geological complexities of the Jinsha River area, the bridge employs innovative solutions like single-span suspension, plate truss combined with stiffening beams, tunneled anchors, and hydraulic buffer damping devices. These advancements enhance the bridge’s strength, resilience, efficiency, and environmental protection capability.
