Those rainbows are just beautiful - Athabows are probably my favorite game fish. 2019 I caught a nice bull a ways downstream of where you were and a personal best bow in a small creek that emptied into the river.

You sure hit the window! I love those gorgeous grayling, it's pretty cool to catch so many in the spring. The dual drone/ground shots were effective!

Yep - you'll have to come here sometime and experience the early season river fishing. It can be amazing.

Hey, it’sApril 5 2024. I know it’s early, but is the Athabaska open yet near Hinton? I’m in Edmonton and I’m thinking I’m going south Monday or maybe out to Hinton if the river is open.

It’s only open around the mill - maybe 5 km. Probably will open up in the next week sometime. You can check Landsat imagery online.

Awesome video ! Is that stretch of the Athabasca silty glacial run -off or bad fishing in late July ? Was really hoping to get some grayling this summer but I might reschedule for spring if it’s my best bet!

Sorry for the dumb questions in advance, I recently plan to go to the Athabasca River for fishing and I am just confused that it seems like everyone will be fly fishing there, is it a regulation that we have to follow in the national park? I have never tried fly fishing before, so I am wondering what kind of bait you will recommend?

if it is not a must for us to fly fishing I will just bring a regular rod I guess..

How do I find grayling on this river in jasper in October?
@flyfish-bowhunt-alberta3 жыл бұрын
They’re aren’t any grayling in the Athabasca River in Jasper- you need to get into the foothills to find grayling. You need to get to about 40 km on the Emerson Lake road before u get grayling in the Athabasca
