I wanted to spend two days in Nantucket and could not find a video that gave a tour of the island so I made one of my two day trip. The island is beautiful in Spring with all the flowers and Cherry trees blooming but can be a bit cold. There are very few tourists on the island so you have the place to yourself!

I honeymooned on Nantucket Island August 1989. It was magical. In all my travels, there was none other like it. We were at a little B&B and rented a double-seat moped. The Whaling Museum was fascinating. We wandered around a cemetery. We saw tombstones of the captains that had their beautiful oil portraits handing on the museum walls. If my memory serves me correctly, the Spanish Flu of 1918 hit the island hard. Many tombstones had 1918 as the year of death. I was hoping to make my way back there by myself summer 2021, but I read about the travel restrictions of doing a 14-day quarantine before being allowed on the island or paperwork to show proof of a negative COVID test within 72 hours prior to going to the island. I just watch the videos now. I don't think my dream of returning will ever happen now.

The correct way to pronounce a couple of the town names: Madaket=Madaget. Siasconset=Sconset ! I will not get into the other pronunciations of the many other names of parts of the island at this time, That concludes my lesson. Nice Video and footage. Something Natural is a Must when visiting the Island!! This from a guy who spent many summers on the island at my parents house in Madaket in Tristams Landing on Columbus Road.

Thanks for the tour and the beautiful views. I was interested in the working class history of Nantucket, so I'm disappointed to learn that the elites have bought most of the island. I had already known that was true of Martha's Vineyard. Thanks again for the beautiful and peaceful trip. 🍒

@RobRoyAdventures
@RobRoyAdventures 2 жыл бұрын
@@Southland23 yes, it is! I was there a few years ago in April and the prices were pretty reasonable for that time of the year. I now see the place I stayed at the Regatta Inn and it was less than $200 per night a few years ago. It has since been purchased by some people who own several properties and their prices in the summer are very, very expensive. If you want a beach vacation in the summer there are much more reasonable places to go.
@cll5634

Spring is an opportune time. You can avoid the throngs of summer tourists and inflated prices. We do the same when going to the Vineyard. Out of a week, we always manage to catch 3-4 seasonable sunny days. It's worth it. Though, as you note, some sites are not yet open. Nonetheless, the views and photo ops are still infinite. I am watching this video because we are considering Nantucket next...

I can understand a first time visitor not knowing how to pronounce the local names of places on Nantucket correctly, but it’s inconceivable that an American would consistently mispronounce Massachusetts (Massa-chew-sets) as Massa-too-sets. 🤔 Also, the harbor on the Cape where the Steamship Authority and Hy-Line ferries depart from is Hyannis, not Hyannisport. Hyannisport is an adjacent community where the Kennedy family has their homes.
