This is one of my earliest paddling trips I have done in quite a while, and was met with a barrier of ice in the bay which caught me by surprise. Especially after my girlfriend dropped me off for 3 days! Luckily I busted my way through to make it to camp safely before dark. I quickly set up my camp and was treated to some great shows ` Ducks dancing and splashing with their mating rituals, beavers letting me know they are not pleased to share the lake, and great horned owls hooting & hollering.
Not much fly fishing luck as it's early in the season, I was mostly trying to shake some rust off from a break from the fly, and try out some new lines and tippets. On this trip I was testing so many things: homemade dehydrated meals, new tripod, pole mounts, tents, mats and more. This year is about fine tuning "systems" to prepare for Spring 2025 where I will be doing +-15 day solo, place to be determined. This trip was one of many this year and already planning the next !
After some great days and nights on this secluded lake, mission accomplished ~ solitude was found.
The last day I caught a decent trout, although I would have released it was hooked in the eye very badly. I kept it, cleaned it, and brought it back home to make a nice Trout dinner. Thanks for watching folks!
Cheers,
Curtis

@NotSoEpicAdventurer Hope you enjoy the pizza video. Super simple weekend 😊 Sounds good! Maybe we can plan something in the future. No big plans yet for the summer. Tossing around a few ideas that require time off work to make it happen. Looking forward to your next video!

Those drone shots are a great addition and give a different perspective on the stunning landscape. Again, you're always lucky with wildlife. It was not a bad start to the season. Cheers✌.

Nice relaxing video, and nice fish. Barbour's method of keeping the fish in a bag with water is effective at preventing spoilage but not effective at preserving firmness of meat. That's why I adapted his technique: fish in a dry bag (opaque so no light gets in), with no water in the bag, tied to a rope and towed behind my canoe. The shade and flow of water across the bottom of the floating dry bag keeps the fish just as cold as being in the water, but relatively dry. Cheers!

Wow that’s a great tip - I’ll have to try that method with my other old bag - cool and not having it soaking in water would be ideal! I appreciate you watching!! :)

Nice trip bud! The fish must have been exciting, itching to catch my first of the year. Good job with getting different camera angles of the trip and having unique broll. Really upping the production quality of the vid 👍👍 keep it up

I'm a bit jealous. I had my first trip of the year planned this weekend but with all that rain coming in and weather warning now, we decided to just do day trips after some trout. It won't be as cool but having the warm dry house to come back to is kinda nice. But I'm hoping next weekend I get out on my first solo adventure. I was checking ice this past week and some of the smaller lakes still had ice on them so as anxious as I am, another week won't be so bad I guess.

It takes a special person to do this SOLO.. Congrats on the skills and peace of mind to do this. Do you mind sharing the shoes / wader combo you are using ?

Thanks for checking out my video Kyle - the waders are from Simms and the boots are from Cabelas ultra light lug soles. Also, I do have skills, but after 20 years…. Soloing can still be very humbling. 🏕️🛶. Cheers!

Great first trip of the year. I'm hoping to get out this weekend to shake off the rust on the rod before we leave next week. How did you like the tent? Thanks for sharing.

My last tent MEC wonderer is 23 years old - so it was a nice change - liking the marmot catalyst… full screen for sleeping under the stars. Can’t wait to see your big trip - Mac cheese/ tuna feast, always good To get out and shake the rust.
