TWO DERAILMENTS at Inman Yard - UPDATE

Good coverage and follow up! I've seen a few of those NS Mother/Slug pairs working yards on a few videos in yards in the southeast. Most of them were, as seen here, rebuilt from old SD's or GP's. Don't think i've seen them using any GE units for that purpose. Although wouldn't be surprised if they exist.

Thanks for the update. Looking at the switches with the lights and other wayside equipment next to them looks like the design of radio controlled switches and not controlled by the tower and that would make sense as to why they have had the two derailments at that location as it would be much easier to someone to accidentally throw them while a train is making a movement over them versus the tower with its interlocking technology that they would be using. Of course as I have not been to Inman Yard, it is pure speculation.

There's a ton of concrete ties up in Smyrna that look like they're intended to replace the wood ties there, but they've been there all summer. No clue how one would figure out when CSX plans to do the work, but it would be an interesting thing to witness. Caught GNRR doing tie replacement in downtown Canton a year or 2 ago which for a class 3 was interesting in and of itself.

That crossover appears to have a tight radius. The newer locomotives with six axles are naturally longer, almost like running an O gauge locomotive on tight O27 track. I never experienced a derailment in my 43 years of service, thank God.
