Two Green Woodpeckers Came Up Close

I never thought I would see woodpeckers up this close, especially the rarer Green Woodpecker. I think it helps that our windows are tinted so they had no idea I was there.
We must have an ant problem because they are foraging for ants ALL over our lawn. Unlike other woodpeckers, green ones don't often peck on trees as their beaks are more delicate. They are most often on the ground eating ants. In the Winter when ants are scarce they will also eat fruit, seeds and berries. #birding #ornithology
