That altered dominant (which is about as altered as it can be), played as an arpeggio, reminds me of every 70s crime mystery I ever saw, when the killer's hands in black gloves appear reaching for the doorknob.

Just looking for some comping voicings over an F blues and here you go... excellent! Interesting to note that all the right hand voicings are intervals of 4th´s, where as the two handed F- and D-voicings even consist of four 4-th intervals so that makes for some nice quartal harmony.

This is a great tutorial. If you start off the 3rd would you just switch voicings so that over the I chord you are playing: 3, 7, 9, 13, 9, 5 and then using smooth voice leading for the rest?

Nice lessons! :) I have one question: I am making a transition from guitar (that I've been studying at school for years) to key/piano but as a self-teacher, just to improve my musical skills. I've soon realized that voicings are one of the most important things to know and one of the trickiest for someone who's been playing a different instrument and simply knows theory. What's the matter with them? should I learn voicings by memory before approaching a musical context or should I just play standards and with practice I'll figure them out automatically? Are there any must-study lessons and must-know rules about voicing that I should learn before move forward? Thanks

Hi Marco, I think that learning voicings in context is more interesting and will keep engaged a lot longer. If you start out with the blues in F and then move on to Bb, Eb, C, and G you will find it less frustrating to learn some of the easier standards.
