I think "Finn Babby" was just being sarcastic. The vast majority of US citizens are fairly sensible people, but due to media saturation and other factors, what gets played up is outrageous behavior and nonsense. Of course, there's a kernel of truth in everything...the US is somewhat isolated geographically and we have opportunistic political leaders who only think in the short term, and tend to influence many of their constituents in that direction as well. That's a fairly recent phenomenon though. If you had visited the US in the 1960s or before, it was a completely different place.

Lenny Tompkins : Yes. Once the people really understood they could vote themselves a living, there was no shortage of candidates promising just that, and getting elected. That's why we're in debt up to our eyeballs, with no end in sight. Fascist/socialist philosophy worked its tentacles in what was once a wonderful experiment in self-government. Now the people have given up their rights to the new aristocracy we call "bureaucrat." And boy do they lord it over us, now!

That person is not sensible. Moose will trample you in a heartbeat. Those are calfs. If you see momma moose, get the hell away. They kill people all the time. Here in Montana, I'm more worried about moose killing me while hunting than grizzly bears.

Let’s also take time to appreciate the excellent rural cycling infrastructure. You know that in North America that side of the road would have just been a breakdown lane for cars and been completely open to the main roadway. Props to Norway for using extra land to build this fully separated two-way cycle path 👍🏼🇳🇴

I know this Malvikvegen (Malvik road) very well. I used it often if I didn't want to take E6 returning from the airport (near Værnes station). The road is lit up at night and even then I saw elks (moose is American and Canadian name, I think) parading on that path. The two elks you see are still very young calves and they were not a thread to a biker. But the bull with huge antlers can only be unfriendly when with newly born calves. With antlers, he will be over 9 feet tall! You may try gently handle them apples. They will take them or ignore you. Elks don't have upper teeth so they don't bite. Cheers.

Smart man. He got off his bike, demonstrated a relaxed demeanor, put a barrier between him and the moose, and waited for them to pass. Many people who haven't lived around moose don't know that they can very aggressive at times and have nearly killed their victims in a few instances.

We don't have moose (meese?) where I'm from, but it seems logical to act the way that he did, also seems very likely that most people would freak out so kudos to him

Late at night in Canada, in virtually total darkness, well inebriated, wandering back to my hotel, I found myself walking through a dark blob that turned out to be a small group of big Elk. I just “chilled”, thinking thoughts like “Hi guys, I’m ok, you? I’m just going home”, while I continued on at a slow pace. They just let me through, not much reaction. I appreciate they can at times be dangerous (and I was prepared to back off if necessary).

I like that the cyclist relaxed his body language as to not appear to be a threat and safely crossed over the rails. He’s smart!

As Canadians, we also often encounter moose, deer, bears, wild turkeys and we know how to interact. They even came in our yards to beg food in Spring .

It's more likely a ton only, or about 1100 kg to be more precise. Scandinavia and everyone else uses metric systems afterall...

First smart white person I seen on You Tube in weeks. (Kidding) 1) He stops and cease riding towards the animals 2) He moves slowly and tries not to react 3) he gets on the other side of the barrier Bravo!!!!!!

sigg3net : He could still hop over the guardrail quicker than the moose could hop over and get him. But if they worked as a team? LOL! That'd be bad.

Yep. Kudos to cyclist. Can't help but think these guys have encountered humans before. Seems like that one was waiting for a treat. Closest I ever got was on the AT. Mom and her calf. The trail went right by the pond they were in and I was thankful the trees were too dense for her to get through. She didn't seem agitated but she was enormous. 🤗

Oh my word! Well played Sir, well played! I love the nonchalant pose against the Opposite side of the only and insufficient barrier with cars driving by. At first the moose were like "do we run from it or trample and eat it?" And the biker's response was all "oh hi ladies, lovely day, I'm just going to chill here and be nonthreatening, K?, y'all have a good day now."
