In 2018, CBS 8 shared the story of a flamingo spotted in the south bay, nobody knew where it came from. We had reached out to local animal organizations but they didn't know why the bird arrived in Imperial Beach.
“My husband and I were on the bike path and we were like oh my gosh is that a flamingo?,” San Diego Resident Tammy Ascher said.
Now, the mystery deepens with the arrival of flamingo number two. Years later, the new flamingo is hanging out with the original one by the same location, along Silver Strand Boulevard.
‘Floyd and Flo’ are some of the names people are calling the pair.
“It's just amazing. I'm glad they're here and whether they are migrating through the estuary or what but yeah it's a blessing to see them,” San Diego Visitor, Juan Segura said.
