He doesn't eliminate any possible places around the speaker like a loose surround or the point the wiring connects into the cone first before checking the voice coil.

Can anyone explain why he tries to diagnose that speaker rattle and distortion by listening to AM radio which is distorted the moment it leaves the transmitter, and further enhanced by his huge RF noise floor? Why does he not do it the right way and use an Audio Frequency Generator to push a clean sine onto the grid of the output tube. All it needs is unsoldering the grid coupling cap from the wiper from the volume pot. Sweeping(!!) a sine wave on the speaker will trigger any rattle or scratching. You cannot tell me that there isnt a signal generator in that pile of test equipment in that shop which can produce an audio range sine wave. And when at the end he stuck the wet paintbrush into the tube socket on that radio,- and really it was the very one paintbrush that he dunked into the water earlier in the video,- and he wonders why the bristles are conductive... I mean if that was an attempt at an electroboom(tm) incident, it was bad acting. If he really did not remember or connect the dots, i suggest seeing the doctor for dementia treatment. Its free in canadas state health insurance afaik

Why not replace the speaker?

Too easy and too expensive. This channel is not about doing things right.

@@randomsteve4288 well I do agree with it being expensive but I disagree with Mr. Jim not doing things right concerning radio repair. I do not mean he is infallible, he does make mistakes, but I am able to learn from his detailed and intricate troubleshooting
