Hi Jim! Here's what I would do when restoring these radios: 1. Remove the cardboard back cover. 2. Remove all tubes. 3. Now I got room to work. 4. Remove the power cord. 5. Replace all capacitors whether they look good or not. Capacitors are cheap, my time isn't. I would use Sprague "Orange Drop" polypropylene or Illinois Capacitor electrolytics as appropriate. 5. Install a new 3 prong power cord. 6. Test the tubes. (buy new ones as needed) 7. Re-install the tubes. 8. Align the trimmers. 9. Reinstall the cardboard back cover, and the case. 10. Enjoy.

I think Jim should have removed the tube for easier access to replacing the wax capacitor, might have saved him the trauma of damaging that coil. Good he was able to “repair” it.
