the ball was never touched and bounced, so it's a live ball. on a punt return, the team who punted it wants to try to field the ball as far back as possible, as this makes it harder for the offense. hope this answers your question.

Just watched the Eagles win over Green Bay 22-10. Wow I can't believe this game is 14 years old!! Andy Reid has moved on as well as Aaron Rodgers. Back in 2010 the Eagles had a bunch of speedsters plus their own every down running back in Lesean McCoy. Except for Jason Peters none of their line stands out. Their line wasn't as big as today's Eagles but one could argue that Vick had a killer arm and could scramble. Eagle's Defense today is 2nd to none. 4 turnovers shutdown the Packers.
