Thank you for the wonderful video. I became a fan of Ukon after learning about how hard he worked to prove his talent and get opportunities to showcase it, despite not having a Kabuki actor for a father. (I am not Japanese either).

Excellent video as always, brother, but I'll tell you the truth: I felt really sorry for Onoe Maholo when he mentioned that he felt bitter because of Renjishi. Maholo shouldn't feel this way, because as Ukon II mentioned, a few Kabuki actors also have the same situation as him (that is, not being the son of a Kabuki actor). If we look at the history of Kabuki, some of the most famous actors were not born as children of Kabuki actors, such as Bandō Tamasaburō V (whose biological parents owned a Ryōtei restaurant in Tokyo) or Kataoka Ainosuke VI (whose biological parents owned a screw factory in Sakai, a city near Osaka). So I think what Maholo should show is that what he lacks in lineage, he can make up for in talent, just like Ukon II, Tamasaburō V and Ainosuke VI, do you agree? Speaking of Ukon II, I have a doubt here: if Ukon II reaches the same level as Danjuro XIII, Ainosuke VI or Kikunosuke V, do you think he will change his name or possibly keep his current name (like the case of Tamasaburō V )?

I wish I could remember names. Sounds so fun to see an actor and know who the hell he is.

You are definitely right, but it is hard to rationalize those things at such a young age. As one of the interviews mentioned, most actors of his age have been recently performing Renjishi with their fathers (Kantarō III, Chōzaburō II, Ushinosuke VII, Shinnosuke VIII this fall...), so it is understandable that he might feel a bit left out. There are not many obvious name options for him, although it would be cool if they revived some historical Otowaya name for him, such as Taganojō, Kikujirō, Eizaburō...

I'm sure you'll get the hang of it soon enough! At first it seems like an overwhelming amount of strange names, generation numbers and obscure guilds, but as you fall down the kabuki rabbit hole, before you realize it you can spot the top actors under any combination of costumes and makeup.

右近の櫓のお七、概してよかったんだけど、人形ぶりにブレイクダンスをいれたのは余計な動きがあってよくなかった。
