BTS and Big Hit anonymously gave money to the victims families at that time even though their company wasn’t big yet. The Korean government at that time held a black list with hundreds of Artists entertainers who spoke out against the tragedy, Kept those Artist from working or even jailed them.
@Mehm126 ай бұрын
After this tragedy, other controversies and scandals about the government officials, including the president of South Korea at that time, came out. That eventually led to the ousting of the president who, I believe, is now in prison. BTS are one of the artists who tried their best to provide comfort to the grieving families although they had to be careful about it or risk getting blacklisted by the corrupt government. It was even a few years later that it was revealed by the families affected that BTS quietly donated to help them out. Remember this was before they blew up and became as huge as they are now. They did not have a lot then but still gave what they can. Let me just add that it is the music video of Spring Day that is directly addressing the tragedy. The song itself was written by RM and Suga for the friends that they lost over time. Lost due to circumstances or choices. The performance you watched is for KZbin’s graduation event last 2020, during the pandemic, which is why the performance seems joyful. BTS and ARMY love this song.

This song was written by Namjoon and Yoongi about THEIR friend. Namjoon wrote Spring Day when he saw a leaf falling from the tree. Thats how the lyrics were formed. As for the video part. It must have been decided by BTS and the production team to include those scenes.
@ipurpleu16686 ай бұрын
Yep, it was actually about different people though. Namjoon wrote it thinking about his high school friends that he actually reconnected with through the process of creating this song. While Yoongi wrote about the friend that he moved to Seoul with to pursue music.

The boat had illegal changes to it to carry more cargo and made it unsafe and caused it to capsize. It was part of a bigger coverup with rich people cutting corners to make more money. I think the crew wasn’t doing their job. In Korea, with hierarchy the way it is, they are taught their whole life to obey older people and authority no matter what, so when they were told to stay where they were, they obeyed and died. Also, afterwards the rescue was hindered by the govt and even though the water was calm they wouldn’t allow civilians to attempt to rescue and they knew the kids were likely alive at that time, they could see that the portholes were not full of water yet. Eventually people went to jail and the president impeached.

@@aprildamian Parents tried appealing to the government for an explanation of why no attempts were made to save the children and got nothing. Mass demonstrations then began in the streets which eventually led to the president being forced out and a change in the government. The captain and the crew were convicted and jailed. The cause of the sinking, and probably a cause for the government cover up, was the cargo being transported far exceeded the weight authorized and was incorrectly loaded. The ship owners were part of the few wealthy and politically connected families that control much of South Korea’s economy.

This song, the unofficial anthem of Korea, everyone knows it. The song and its lyrics are always used as support during exams, used during the pandemic, in difficult incidents for the country and of course on every anniversary of the Sewol tragedy. The song is legendary, and it is also the first and only song in Korea to hold on to the Melon chart since its release.
@mev97526 ай бұрын
Thats wasn’t the music video , it was a performance in the context of the graduates on 2020 , during the pandemic , so the mood was more uplifting towards them. Other performances around the time was released ( 2017) was more into that mood Also the song Am I wrong ? Was towards that government in the climax of other issues they had. They even risked getting blacklisted ( the government was doing that to the ones that were trying to talk about those issues like the director and actor of that movie you saw in the video aka the director that later will get an Oscar for parasite which is staring that same actor). If you haven’t seen those movies I highly recommend it. That’s a good director.

I just love BTS so much ! They are the most Humble Artists on this planet. When this tragedy happened, BTS were still a small Company. But still they wrote and sang Spring Day. BTS donated money to help families. No rich Americans Artists would donate money to a good cause. Who does this in America. American celebrities, All they do is pour their money into drugs, sex and alcohol. This is one of the biggest reason why BTS have the biggest Fandom in the world. The BTS Army was voted no.1 beating out Taylor swift fans swifties. BTS and Army working together hand in hand. Changing lives one step at a time. Which Artists and their fans on this planet can resonate with BTS and Army. I'm so glad I'm a BTS Army ! I miss BTS so much ! Stay well and safe Bangtan 7, see you in 2025.😢💜💜💜💜💜💜💜 BORAHAE !

💜🙏Thank you for sharing your heartfelt reaction to Spring Day..... I want to share with you a comment to another reactor from a survivor of the Sewol disaster.. I would like you to hear from him just how BTS has healed him through this song and the messages they have: His name is Chilo Abellon - and this is his public comment in full - unedited - from 3 years ago.......... "I remembered when they rescuing us its so tragic when you see your classmates/friends stuck asking and hearing them scream for help, the screaming and voices of people asking for help while the ships is sinking the scream slowly vanished. When you can’t help them because the water got deeper and deeper while they rescue us slowly. The time that i got rescued only 3 of us survived, my two classmates and i in our and my other classmates stuck in the ships hoping they’re still alive but when the time i heard the news that they’re all gone. It slowly sinking in that all my friends and the other class are gone and will never comeback. I feel guilty when I survived, I’m thinking am i lucky? Or is it not right that i was alive and not them? Do i deserve to live?. Feeling depressed, having su!cidal thoughts, every night you can’t sleep because i keep hearing those scream a scream people needing a help but you can’t because your weak and got broken bones. Everything time I struggled to see what life is all about, thinking what if all of my friends survived and they with me survived. It would be dream to see that happening. I struggled to make a good life that i can be proud of because of that incident happened but when i found out about BTS my life changed me because of their music they changed my life the way that i can be proud of and I started loving myself by little by little and finally the day I realize life is so short and the incident happened 7years ago impacted my life to be a better person and all of our hardships are just a big task for us to make them done and the outcome will be 100times better the incident happened 7years ago thought me so many things. The biggest one is don’t forget they might be gone but don’t forget them put them on your heart and like life all of your hardship and your mistakes will not lose or fail you it’s always a win win situation because we always learn from them. Spring day is my number 1 fav song of BTS because I reminisce the things happened 7years ago while watching the mv and it always help me to keep going in life and do not give up on things that i want to achieve - My name is Chilo one of the survivors of the sewol ferry incident." I truly hope he does not mind me passing on his public comment - but this best shows the power of BTS message. The worst thing about the disaster - the captain and most of the crew fled the ship in the morning 9.35 - the ferry did not sink until the night - they left the warning to "not move and stay still" playing on a loop through the ship. Only the children that disobeyed the warning survived. The others drowned as they were so ingrained to listen to authority. The civilian boats that attempted to rescue people were stopped by the coast guard as people would discover the boat was illegally overloaded. Parents on the shore were receiving desperate calls and texts from their children begging for help. And the coastguard did nothing. The only rescue the coastguard made that day was the captain and crew... The people that got rescued were rescued by fishing vessels that got there first before they were stopped... 3 years the ferry lay at the bottom as the Govt would not raise it for fear of discovering the truth.... They found video footage taken on mobile phones that were recovered of children wishing their families goodbye. 3 crew members stayed behind to try and help the children, they all lost their lives, along with one of the rescue divers. Also, one of the civilian rescue divers later committed su!cide after having to recover so many childrens bodies, knowing that he could have saved them but was forcibly stopped. As a parent, I could not comprehend having to live through such a thing. Horrific that your own government would perpetrate and then cover up such an incident... jailing dissenters for protesting. It was proven that there were high officials with financial interests in the ferry. The president colluded with them to bury the truth and hamper investigations... 10000 people in the public eye (reporters, artists, etc) put on a Govt blacklist for speaking about it. BTS went and paid respects to the parents of the victims in 2014 when the tragedy occurred. No Cameras - No fanfair - just doing what was right...They also donated approx $100,000 (that year they only earnt $300,000 - they gave 1/3 of their earnings) to help the parents in their fight for justice.... We only found out about the donation years later as one of the parents was sick of all the hatred BTS was always getting and wanted others to know what decent and good people they are. The MV, The album cover, The choreography all relate back to the Sewol. But the song itself is about missing anyone you love and are separated from. They were singing Spring Day during the panademic as the world was longing for a spring day. Spring Day has never left the music charts. To this day, it is right that this song is still in the top 100 charts.... 7 years later, as this song still speaks to people everywhere. Sorry this is so long - but I really wanted to pass his comment and information to you relating to your Spring Day reaction video.... with posting your reaction you have helped keep the memory of Sewol alive and maybe others who do not know of it will learn of the tragedy. "What you still don't know about Spring Day" by Italian Army is much more in depth. Thank you for sharing your journey, and helping to spread BTS message... Sending greetings and love from Australia.... BORAHAE💜 #WeNeverWalkAlone

I am half korean, I was a teen back then and didn’t quite understand a lot because I wasn’t actually living in Korea too but I just remember watching the video of the parents seeing the ship sinking and not being able to help, my dad is actually a diver and he knew some of the divers who helped rescue the kids when the government didn’t … the stories are sad the government treated the divers like criminals when they were the actual heroes, one of them tragically ended up killing himself because of this, this tragedy was like one of the reasons why the president got impeached and back then not even journalists were allowed to report it without receiving threats from the higher ups,

Would have been nice if you watched the official MV.....and there are other explanation videos that will answer the questions you have. Seems the govt, was very complicit (cargo was overweight) and at the time it was VERY risky for BTS to 'speak out' (other artists were blacklisted) so they did the video with a rather 'hidden' meaning. The kids were calling their parents as the ship was tipping over and in many cases the parents regretfully told the children to obey the captain. This footage and interviews can be found on YT. I think the MV is genius in how it used so many references to explain what happened while keeping the lyrics very 'generic', because the truth of what happened was very intense. As I said, other explanations, though they may be a bit longer, are worth the time because they answer your questions. I watched SnowPiercer and want to read Omelas, we live in times where we are oppressed, but more importantly, 800,000 children go missing in the US every year.

What if...they knew indirectly those people in the sewol tragedy? They don't 'directly' have to be friends with them, but they maybe knew some of them on that ship and decided to make a song about it and show their support for other koreans and especially their fans who may have even greater affiliations(relations) with those onboard.
@ipurpleu16686 ай бұрын
They probably didn't, so I don't think that is a "theory" worth trying to spread. None of them were from or lived anywhere near the high school where the students were from. They were also all, besides Jungkook, out of high school when the tragedy happened, which affected students that were even years younger than Jungkook. There is no reason to believe they knew any of the students. Also, RM and Suga have gone into detail about the people they wrote the song about. For RM, it was for people he went to high school with and had reconnected with after the release of the song. And for Suga, it was about the friend he moved to Seoul with to do music.
