25 years as a diesel mechanic and I quit buying Snap On because of their false advertising in regards to their warranty. It’s BS, the tool guy always has an excuse for why he can’t fix it right a way. That or they claim they ordered the parts and forget you ever said anything. The only time they’re helpful is when your wallet is out. In my grandfathers day Snap On was always on top simply because of the lifetime warranty…. No one else did that. Now almost all tools can be bought with a lifetime warranty so why would any mechanic pay the exorbitant price that Snap On demands when they won’t stand behind their own products. You can buy better but you can’t pay more!

You're BS. I brought In a ¼" drive ratchet to get my warranty, and he could not fix it. He did not have that ratchet on the truck, so he let me pick out any standard length ¼" drive ratchet for free. I got a 100th anniversary ¼" drive for free. That's a 75 dollar ratchet traded in for a 175 dollar ratchet. Maybe get a new guy.

I started out buying Snap on tools in 1975. During my time as Master Tech with ASE master, Emission Instructor, GM tech and Toyota Award I spent over $45,000 on Snap on Tools. In 2011 I was going to retire at age 67 and decided to buy a New 1/2 Drive Snap on Impact Wrench. I rarely used it as I only would use it to remove the lug nuts on my truck. I always lept it lubricated using Snap on lubricatant and kept in my Snap on Tool boxes. My boxes and roll cabinet are all original and like new. That day the gun stopped working. I called Snap on and was told they nor longer repair that model as it was discontinued! I located a Snap on Truck near our home and was also told the same. He asdvised me to locate a shop that repairs these impact wrenches. I paid $459 for this gun. The cost to repair around $200. The repair shop finally decided he had a person who was looking for this brand and I sold it for $150. Never again would I buy any tool from Snap on!!

I had the same problem last year! My Snap on 1/2 drive Impact wrench I bought in 2012 and realey used it except for my own home use stopped working. Called Snap on and was told they no longer repair this model as it was discontinued. Found a Snap on Truck and was told the same. I located a machine shop that does repairs and was told the parts for this model are not available!! Sold it online for $150.00 and use this to buy a ASTRO 1/2" for $136.00 actually has more torque and has a great warranty. Never again will I puchase Snapon

In over 40 years I only had 2 issues with warranty, 2 different snap-on dealers. #1 was the dealer charged me for the pin to put my 1/2 breaker bar back together when it broke , paid him the $9 dollars and told him he wasn’t allowed back in the shop. My employees had to go out on the road to deal with the guy. #2 was not actually me but a guy that I had hired , a new snap on guy ( at one time he sold , Mac and Allied as well) , he had a broken screwdriver bit . The dealer’s reasoning was because this employee had never ever bought anything from him from any of the tool 3 dealers he owned.

I agree totally. You did the right things there. I am a 30+ year aircraft mechanic who uses all brands of crazy tools. My daily use chrome is all SO. 1/4" rachets and sockets (only short, SO deeps are not as good as my early 80s Craftsmans) and combination wrenches. All in SAE sizes. I could go on and on but my dealers have always treated me well with warranties which I can say have been very few. I use SO wrenches and ratchets to stave off carpal tunnel and they have to now. I am 53.

I've had snap on not warranty some sockets I bought. I drive a heavy tow truck and bought the driveshaft sockets for removing 18 wheeler driveshafts. So I'm pulling and reinstalling 5 or 6 driveshafts a day. I would wear them out to the point they broke. In about 2 months. The 2nd time he wouldn't warranty them. Said I was using the wrong size sockets. I have spent about 20 thousand on snapon tools over the years. After that I haven't bought another. Switch to matco and haven't had a problem since.

My snap on dealer I only met him a couple weeks ago. He said he has a customer just like that old man that buys broken tools and sells them and I was telling him about tools. I saw the flea market and they were probably stolen and he told me he was glad I didn’t buy him but his words if you find a snap on ratchet for five dollars buy it.

In fairness to both dealers and legitimate customers getting screwed; perhaps snap-on should adjust their lifetime warranty. Maybe bring down the price a bit, remove the words “lifetime”, and ensure that dealers don’t eat any costs….

My old dealer had a similar story. There was a guy that would bring him ratchets (mostly), but never bought anything. Turned out he bought them at yard sales and such, warrantied them on the truck, then sold them online. He told the guy to get off his truck after that.

Back in the day snap on had what they called E ratchets. They wanted something like $7 repair your ratchet or they would give a POS E ratchet. I think I still have one, that I lost in a paving machine and didn't get back tell that winter, when we tore down that paver for major repairs and updates. When there is 25 windrow of asphalt laid out in the fast lane of the freeway and 20 trucks waiting to dump and busted ass paver, you don't have luxury of looking for a lost tool in the dark. Now if I had drop my only can Copenhagen, that's a different story!!!

It’s all about the relationship. I always pay, every week. Limit my account balance to no more than $600. Then pay the balance off before buying more. Never had a problem with warranty. Even if the tool is discontinued, they replace it with the updated model. So folks, pay your bill !

No one buys tools at the shop I work at. I understand why tool trucks don’t want to stop buy our shop. But how is my fault when I bought the tools from snap-on, Matco, or Mac and they are simply worn out and I can’t get anyone to warranty my items? The snap on dealer at my brother in-law shop didn’t want to warranty my tools. Because I gave them to my brother in law to exchange for me. Even though it’s my brother in law shop and he literally buys thousands of dollars worth of tools each year and just have a few broken sockets and worn out screw drivers.

Thinking outside the box here, if said guy has a bucket of broken tools, and doesn't want to bother the dealer with the tools, could said customer mail them to Snap-On? Would Snappy warranty them with out a hiccup? I see it, that if a person wants to make money doing that, its a free market. Just wondering if Snappy would have a problem. Thanks

That's not always true. New dealers get into their trucks and some, not all will pull the warranty right from the first transaction. Had it happen to me. I kindly explained to him that yeah, I do have some older tools with older date codes. But some I inherited from my grandfather and my father. After he realizes my top socket drawer has over 30k in just sockets, he changed his tone. Have a great relationship now.
