I have 7 bikes and my girl is ok with being a passenger but was hesitant to ride. She always liked the ryker so I bought one a couple years ago and she loves it. We added a rider backrest, MTX audio and a windshield. Just put a Max Mount and SlingModz saddlebags and tour pak and are deciding whether to change the whole seat or just add a passenger pillion. She also deciding if she want passenger pegs or floorboards.

The definitive video on 2 up Ryker riding. Love your emphasis on safety. When we had our Spyder RT my wife and some of the other senior ladies wore passenger seatbelts in case of dizzy spells. Traded our Spyder RT for a sports car so with $$$ left it has to be the less expensive Ryker if we are going to get back into biking again as a couple. You and Beth always do top notch videos.

Great video guys!!! Been looking at these BRP Bikes for a while now. Think the F-3 Spyder will fit the wife and I’s needs most. We ride 2 up a lot and comfort is a big concern for us. We use to have a Valkyrie with Corbin saddles/back rests. So I think the 1330 cc would be a must for me!! The Valkyrie was 1530cc and it was a flat 6. Very powerful bike, so I think the Ryker would be better for a single ridder that only rode 2 up once in a while. We ride a lot with her cousin and her hubby, they have a big Ultra Classic Harley. Mostly only on day trips, but some days can = up to 500+ miles sometimes. Great info here, haven’t seen any videos like this. Hats off to the both of you, great colab!!!

Thanks DJ. For sure the Ryker is better suited for solo riding and like you said once in a while 2 up for really short distances. The Spyder or any large cruiser is the way to go for long distance 2 up riding.

It's a wee bit crazy to see you driving in jeans. Be warned that if you have an accident with a broken bone, they will not operate if you have even a tiny little bloody abrasion on your skin. This is due to the risk of infection. Then you have to wait until it is healed, if it comes very badly. With me it was so! And that was an accident at walking speed. ALWAYS neat clothes!

Great video. My bike was in for service, a friend with a bike offered a ride. This was my first time as a passenger. It was a terrifying experience of my life. 50% was my friend messing with me. Have zero control over the ride was so scary. now after 30 years of ridding, I have only been a passenger 3 times. I have had passenger 100's of times. This also make me very worried about their safety. Solo ridding is the best. p.s. 1 time I manipulated events to make my mother ride as a passenger to pick up her car. This was her 1st ride on a bike. she was 50% terrified, 50% thrilled. But said she would never ride again...She remarried a guy with a Harley collection. I guess she preferred the Harley to my CBR.

One thing I did learn about turning with a three wheeler, is that your leg needs to be at almost straight when negotiating the turn, therefore reducing the gravitational pull.
@RideAboutNow
@RideAboutNow 2 жыл бұрын
Sure. The biggest thing is to lean your body in the turn to balance the opposite force out. It's easy to get the hang of it after a few turns.

Great passenger test ride. After watching a couple times, I would say, if your going longer distance with a passenger, go with the Spyder version or two wheel touring bike.
@RideAboutNow
@RideAboutNow 3 жыл бұрын
For sure. The Ryker is really a solo machine and the Rally is good for short distance passenger riding once in a while. But the Spyder is the way to go if people really want 2 up riding.
@stefanhoyer7316
@stefanhoyer7316 3 жыл бұрын
My first trip as a couple was with my wife. We drove directly 20 min with full speed (105 mph) over the highway. I see absolutely no problems to drive even longer time with 100 mph with two up. With the exception of the wind of course. Also on winding roads I see zero problems. But OK, I come from the ATV. Unfortunately, our EU Ryker have a throttle up to 50 mph. Up to there, they only have the power of the 600, but that's not unpleasant as far as cruising goes. At full power, you have to have yourself very much under control.

@11:13 fwiw, he doesn't carry his 130 lbs nearly as well as she does her 90 lol. She gets off, no noticeable suspension rebound; then he gets off and *BOING*... the bike was all "aaaahhhh, relief". Kidding aside, this was a great video. It's apparent that safety is #1 and that's the only way to fly / ride imo. As I'm entering my "I wanna Can Am" phase, I look forward to more vids from the both of ya. Thanks! Edit: @15:58 lmao!!!! You have quite a setup with cameras on your helmets and on the bars, the one on the left hand side seems to restrict the view form that mirror but that may be just how it appears not as it is for the rider. I like the tall wide screen it must be good for the rider but what about the passenger who seems to be sitting a bit higher. I'm curious as to how the 2 riders affect the bike. You spoke about braking and turning but I'm interested in how it goes in just normal riding. Do you feel the 900 copes well with 2 riders? I know these have a CVT but is there a noticeable decrease in power with 2 riders especially when taking hills? I've never been a passenger. I am conscious of the responsibility the rider takes on with a passenger - it is a scary thought. Thanks for posting.
@RideAboutNow
@RideAboutNow 3 жыл бұрын
I clamped the camera on one of the hand guards just for this video so I could get the passenger clearly in the shot and luckily it worked. To be honest I don't think from factory any of the Rykers should be used for 2 up riding. Even the Rally is good but there is still a weight limit of around 300-330 pounds. You will have to spend a lot of money changing shocks, might as well go for an F3. The power seems to be okay but it takes a hit for sure. The whole dynamics change with 2 up, you have less power, longer braking distances, turning is heavier because not you have a passenger. It is a lot of responsibility for sure and you need to have pre ride chats with your passenger so all are on the same page and they know what to expect. It is a bit scary if your passenger has not ridden before unlike a seasoned passenger.

Thanks to all that contributed to this video and Ryker safe so you can bring us more.

That adjustment is to adjust preload. That is the amount of sag the trike has when someone sits on it. You do not want this to be to high or to low (which will in effect cause the trike to feel softer or stiffer) because it effects handling. There is a set amount of preload you should be in on a motorcycle. What that number is on a trike, i have no idea. You can youtube how to set preload to learn how to calculate it on a motorcycle. It would be the same for a can am, but the number you are shooting for is probably different.

This is not correct. The red knob is for compression damping. This means that an additional counterforce is generated during compression. This is generated by the fact that the oil flowing from the damper is throttled. This is only effective during dynamic compression. The stiffness of your suspension, on the other hand, results only from the spring stiffness (i.e. only from the spring). This means that no matter where the knob is positioned, the tail always sinks by the same amount at static rest. The spring preload (via the thread on the spring) also changes nothing in the stiffness, it only changes the height and accordingly the sag and the spring travel (ratio between positive and nagative spring travel). RIDE SAFE!

I think you need an upgrade suspension for 2 up. In my opinion Ryker is not really meant for 2 up riding for longer trips. Best to get a Spyder even a used one. The suspension on the rally was already at its highest for 2 up riding but still not enough.

Yeah it's not the fastest thing but has enough power to go up hill. We tried that as well and although the video doesn't show much elevation but these roads are in the Red Top mountain area so they are not exactly flat. You can tell that the bike slows down a bit but I wouldn't worry about not making it uphill.

I would say it's pretty dangerous to have your gal relying on the bike for support as the passenger. Some kind of tether that pulls her in or grips her closer to you if there a quick turn.. on a regular bike she has her arms around you or she is holding onto the bike. It seems like it's difficult for her to have arms around you. Because of the elevation..

So the hard plastic saddle for passengers is nothing they have back rest so comfy? If you are ryding 2 up RTL. You do not save money buying cheap plastic crap. Now add more $$ and think of all the money you save being a ryker owner. Wishing you could buy a RTL spyder. 2020 new model is out. The pre 2020 are cheaper now. Can buy tricked out RT, for same price as new plastic, need more brakes. Unstable,etc. No down shifting potential. Just hard on brakes. Do you thin you are going to Dead wood and no cruise control? Talk about carpal tunnel. Racing up down mtns. They are the sportster of the Spyder world. Look good on a trailer. Probably safer, rode them as prototype, new and very unimpressed, until fitted properly, Down right dangerous. No Joke test ryde one yourself but be caution hard to keep in 1 lane for novice. No hater tell what I know,wife friends to. No one I know has traded a Spyder for a ryker.
@RideAboutNow
@RideAboutNow 3 жыл бұрын
Dennis thank you for watching and your feedback. The Ryker is really made to be a solo riding motorcycle and not for long distance passenger riding. But there are some youtubers that are doing that and are happy. But yes I agree the Spyder is way way more comfortable and better at it. But having said that, this Ryker cost me 12k out the door brand new. I searched for a 3-4 year used Spyder for months before giving up and was not able to find a used one at that price. That was my budget. I found 1 or 2 F3 Spyders for about $13k with more than 70k miles on them. That was going to be a no go for me. The 2020 RTs are from roughly $22k to $27k here in Atlanta. Used ones are still close to new prices and the older models are still in the upper teens, if you can find one in good condition. In my previous videos I mention that the Spyder was my first choice but you have to go with what you can afford, and the Ryker fit the bill around my budget. The cheapest Spyder here is the basic F3 and that costs mid $15k and that was $3k over my budget. The thing is when you want a used one it is tough to find so when you make your purchase after that you start to find the bikes you were looking for LoL. If I am able to in the future I will upgrade to the Spyder for sure.
