To calculate the SS of factor A, you create a model where factor B comes before A and extract the SS of A from such model (and vice versa for B)

If your data is balanced you do not need to worry about which model (type 1, 2 or 3) to use because they should generate the same results. So use a between-between ANOVA with interaction.
