Paul, I use that same garage door in my settlement but I hook them up to the city attack siren so the door stays open at all times until the settlement gets attacked then the city gates close once the siren goes off.

Great idea Saraphiene! The only problem I've run into with the siren is that the settlers don't usually turn on the siren until half the battle is over and settlers have already run outside to join the fight. It would've been so cool if the siren was sensor activated like the turrets and the spotlight.

Skooled Zone How about hooking the siren up to a tripwire? Leave the siren switched on. Then the trip wire could turn it on when tripped. it might work.

Skooled Zone I have guard posts beside my sirens so settlers are always there. I have 2 defense gates that close on 2 separate sirens. When the siren activates, an emergency flare goes up, the main door closes and my "defense" doors open. My main defence grid also powers up(the reason being I don't get attacked with 500 defense.) I also have a 6 switch code lock on my armory. Using 2 AND gates and 4 XOR gates plus 6 switches . I use the advanced settlement power mod( I know it's a mod free channel, but by using this I am given a siren activator and deactivator. I wired both of my gates to these sensors and brought it to my fast travel target. So if my settlement is under attack I can manually activate and deactivate the siren from the security of my home.

Paul, easy recipe for doors that close during an attack: hook up a powered door to the output of an XOR Gate. For the input you need to have one line to direct power and the other line running to a siren. Keep your siren RIGHT next to a guard post and when you get attacked your settler manning that post will activate the alarm, putting the other settlers on high alert, and close the gates at the same time. BONUS POINTS: you can hook a mortar up to the siren with a flare in it, now when you get attacked you can alert settlers, close off the settlement, AND call in a counter attack. NOTE: It's important to shield your generator extremely well. If it get's taken out, the doors will open!

I can also make a door that is double switched and is set up to shut down in case of emergency. lmk if youd like to know how.

i know it's old but i tried this and it didn't work? i think you're referring to the NAND logic gate. if you use XOR or XNOR then it only opens during an attack
@adamb89
@adamb89 8 ай бұрын
You can link your powered doors, turrents, alarm, and spotlights all to a single switch. If your settlement is attacked, flip the one switch and the whole place goes on lockdown with colored flashing lights, sirens, etc. Not as practical as leaving a bunch of turrets connected 24/7 but for immersion it's pretty cool. Then after the fight is over you can turn it all off and everything goes back to normal. If you don't want to listen to a bunch of turrets chugging all the time.

Dude, these classes are fantastic for brand new players like me who jumped on the Fallout bandwagon after the Amazon Prine show These logic gates are similar to what we use in No Man's Sky and folks have made some insane electrical builds like fully working games and counters like giant skee ball machines or pachinko machines They also used them to create elaborate combination locks in NMS It seems like a similar mechanic
@SkooledZone
@SkooledZone 2 ай бұрын
You mean the Amazon show 😉 But yeah, I've heard good things about NMS. Haven't played it yet. But logic gate "logic" should be the same because it's based on real life logic gates. Here's an even cooler automatic door that you can build with them: kzbin.info/www/bejne/ZpPLgIiCf9t5rbc

First off thanks for this video, I was finally able to wire an electric door in my settlement! Tyvm BUT, I just watched a similar video on the same subject from norespawn. He made it two years ago. He made a total hash of his example. However, one of the commenters was able to give a clearer explanation. Basically, with the door mounted so that the power input conduit is on the outside. You bring power to the inside switch, then route it from there to the outside switch, which is connected to the doors power input coduit. This method only requres three wires and switching off the inside switch locks the door in the closed position.

Late to the party, but I used logic gates, power counters, some shooting pulse switches, a couple manufacturing machines, delay switches, and some other whatnots to build a target range game that keeps score and dispenses prizes. It was part of my boardwalk at Nordhagen beach. It's called "Working Target Range" on my channel.

I found a simple way to use a 2 way garage door. 1. First set down the door. 2.Take a pass through connector in the conduit section and run it through the wall of the door with the conduit facing outside. 3. Snap a switch from the conduit section to the wall pass through connector. 4. Snap another conduit to the switch. 5. On the outside of the garage door place a switch and connect the wire to the wall pass through conduit. 6. Connect the outside switch to the door. 7. Place a power source and connect it to the inside power switch. ONLY CONNECT THE INSIDE. 8. Should be complete. Test it out. If you switch on and off both switches and the door should be complete. I found this out a few months ago and it doesn't even require a glitch. All workshop mechanics! Hope my instructions were clear and I hope you can figure it out to maybe do a small video on it because I've had trouble with the door for years and I still don't understand logic gates so my discovery was life changing for me.

I've found a way to do this without the AND logic gate. It turns out that if you connect a power source to the wall-switch on the outside, then connect the outside switch to the wall-switch on the inside, then connect the wire form the inside wall-switch to the door, you have an AND logic system without the need for the logic gate. Though, the logic gate does look a LOT nicer. If you're going for aesthetics, the logic gates are DEFINITELY the way to go.

Using logic gates i made double doors for my entrance. They open and close individually, front door opens to security. Security can open next. If failed security check as threat, they can also call siren. Closing both doors, and if you happen to be trapped, you are trapped with another door that reveals a shotgun turret that turns on with it. My castle murder hole. Custom castle not game castle. It was a self sufficient concrete castle, - First floor with shops and water room, with corridor going around it all, connecting at every side, pillboxs to get shot around castle corner and sides, 2 layer walls, inner window for cover, outer mesh to stop explosives. - 2/3rd floor rooms and with security desk on 1 and on 1 a ledge going round to snipe from - 4th gym and other life stuff, and another ledge for sniping and managing rocket turrents. - 5th backup fusion power and management room - Roof farm, windmill and mortar.

I still refer to these, and I just recently got all of the DLC that you are using here. This is all fresh for me. Thanks for all of the helpful videos. How many episodes are there in Skooled Zone now? I'm sure I will have to go back and watch them all. Also, is there a cross reference for how to do things on the PC without a controller? For instance, rotating objects. I know it can be done on the PC, but I don't know which key will toggle the axis. Also, some of the tricks/glitches only seem to work on the console version. That's okay, because I can use the ~ console for moving objects into place (possibly easier than using the console glitches) and the ones that matter, like settlement size glitch and true wire glitch still works on the PC. The creativity is exemplary, and as I said, many of the available building blocks and objects are new for me. If Starfield has similar settlement options, will you think about doing a series for that when it comes out? I'm thinking since it is Bethesda, it may have similar (familiar) features.😀

I built a combination lock. I put 10 switches, labeled them 0-9 only when all prime numbers are pulled, and only when ONLY prime numbers are pulled does the door open. I know it doesn't matter, as you said settlers don't work switches but it's for immersion. In order to not get locked in (theoretically someone could pull a switch while you are inside and lock you in) I put a pressure plate so you can always get out. Stepping on the pressure plate opens the door.

I just played around with the gates because your video didn't give me the one I wanted. I essentially wanted my gates to work both ways all the time like a three way switch on some stairs. I used the NAND gate ("transmits power unless all inputs have power") with two switches going to it's input just like in your video to achieve the desire effect. Now, every time one switch is flipped the door either opens or closes. From either side.

Another consideration for the xnor switches is they seem less likely to glitch and it's actually a very clever Idea to us on settlement gates so that when your not their they won't run out into a fire fight in the defense of the settlement when you should have enough automated defenses to get the job down or you can actually use it to rangle up enemies or you settlers but as for the enemies maybe trip wires would work better.

i love intelligent builds... and have not figured out the uses of logic gates. i somewhat understand there use and this vid confirms it, however it would seem the uses i have for it are beyond the AI of my settlers. i can assign a settlers to work the garden and watch him stand facing a wall most of the time all the while getting credit for food production. manufacturing....Ha! so i have forgone the use of logic gate on doors, rad arch, alarm systems, traps.... that is until my settlers can prove they have Some Logic. not to take anything from you amazing videos. thanks

Yeah, that's going to be one of my requests in my upcoming Fallout 5 wish list video; being able to assign settlers and NPCs to other settlement interactions.

Getting the hang of the wire glitch. That said,with the logic gates available now I still scratch my head as to why we still have to glitch...
@SkooledZone

Mostly wire glitching is used to hide wires or make them go through walls. Can't do either with the traditional methods.

Paul, i have been figuring out but if you use this logic gate and you fast travel from inside the base you will not be able to go back in without getting inside the base editor. i have been figuring out how to fix it and i recommend to use the XOR logic gate.
@SkooledZone
@SkooledZone 6 жыл бұрын
Yes, I did mention the XOR gate at 11:32. But you can also just have your fast travel mat on the inside of the settlement. That way you'll reappear inside your settlement when fast travel back. You can also just leave the door open at all times and only close it when attacked. :)

Instead of using switches I use the trip wires and pressure plates and a series of two doors so that only one door opens at a time. I have most of my defensive turrets at this point so that no one can enter my settlements unless they are friendly. I do have a mod (covenant wall mod) to wall off the settlement but you could use the cement DLC.
@SkooledZone
@SkooledZone 6 жыл бұрын
That's a good idea, David, but is there a way to keep the pressure plates on without mods? I tried that originally but as soon as you step off the pressure plate the door immediately starts to close.
@davidblack9071
@davidblack9071 6 жыл бұрын
You use the pressure plate (in conjunction with logic gates) so it closes behind you.
@SkooledZone
@SkooledZone 6 жыл бұрын
Interesting, so your gate doesn't start immediately closing as soon as you step off the pressure plate? If that's the case, I'd love to know how you do that. If it's something I can show the "class" I'll definitely credit you in a video!

It is easier to explain that it would for me to make a video. It is pretty easy. Just use an OR or XOR gate on your pressure switches in like a W pattern. Two OR gates and three pressure switches the middle one opening up two doors. Then you can use fencing to funnel people into those switches like an hourglass and you can adjust them to fit the caravans. I don't make very pretty settlements. I make them more security focused.

Hey I made the same kind of door but without wire glitch(simply I couldn't figure out how to do so I'm gonna watch another episode) I used 4 conduits instead and it worked well (by somehow glitch the piece to pearce through the door)

I always forget that only the player can use switches. That would be a good way to set up a sort of "bank vault", so that you can lock away all those precious legendaries you've collected so the settlers don't steal them during raids.
@SkooledZone

Definitely. Just don't put the fast travel mat, any beds, or any intractables in there or settlers can spawn in there.

Finally got me thinking about logic gates now... Is there a way to hook them up so that when the siren is on, a powered door will close?

Love the videos ive learnt so much from you. I've done something very similar but instead of using the logic gates i used the timer switch and set them to a 10sec delay so i have time to walk in and the door closes behind me. Keep up the good work.

I threw down some furniture at my trading post caravans. Benches positioned under a street light at Sunshine Tidings so they can appreciate the view (Carla usually looks so tired), a water fountain, an Eat-O-Tronic, a small privy with piles of cash stacked against one wall. Hey, gotta have something for toilet paper. May as well use money. ;) That's one way dollar bills outshine bottlecaps. Question. Are there seashells to be picked up anywhere in the game? I'd love to make a bathroom with three seashells on the counter for the obvious Demolition Man reference.

I've done this step by step about four times and only one side will work. I can't seem to get both switches to activate the door. I am happy it works from the outside and I can just jump out of my compound lol. I'm not going to give up until I get it solved!! Just started this game...I know I'm way late to the party.

Bit late to the party. But I use logic gate to make a door that close when the alarm is raised. Had to turn to KZbin to do it like. I can't remember the channel name. But this is the build series that taught me what I know

If you connect a wire to a conduit, then true wire glitcht from that conduit a wire to a other conduit, using the true wire glitch aswell the previous wire will vanish, but it'll stil be connected. A poster of mine is wired and has power but the wire is gone. I tested it and it fully works, but you have to be cautious, as i once had a problem that i used this glitch on box light (those square lights who can change color)and i could move it without the wire being visible, and it was emitting light wherever i placed it, but the conduit who was connected to a concrete wall, was with the wall and the generator kinda glitched because some times if you stored any of these items your game crashes and gives a error. I was able to store evrything (by storing evrything in a specific order), so no harm was done. I wondered if you could look more into it (but definitely save before attempting)... loved the video btw even when i knew how to do such things already.

Here's an idea, add a siren that when activated, cuts off power to the door making impossible to open until you turn the power off.

In your explanation of why you used the xnor gate you explain that even though only the player can use switches it's for roleplaying to create a lock on the door so people outside can't get in. If that's the case then in that situation couldn't someone also flip the outside switch while you're inside with the door shut causing you to be "trapped" inside? Before anyone asks, yes I realize this is a moot point given the game mechanics. More of a hypothetical question.

For some reason this won’t work in my visitors center I’ve done it in 3 other settlements in the commonwealth maybe it has to do with the placement of where my door is? I’m not sure what the issue is but I’ve re wired it 3 times going step by step on the video and it just won’t work
