"Oh No" is the word that automatically I say when a foreigner/tourist is being directed to Yu Djum to try their first gudeg. Gudeg Yu Djum is on of the sweetest gudeg that you can find in Yogyakarta.😅 I recommend tourist to try 1. Gudeg Sagan 2. Gudeg Mbah Lindu 3. Gudeg Mercon They are less sweet, and make sure you mix everything in one bite. It can change your first perspective about gudeg. ☺️ Hope you try it, and I enjoy watching your video Sarah and Seunghun.

The charcoal in the Kopi Joss (Joss coffee) is there to keep the coffee warm. This type of coffee usually served in the street-side vendors called "angkringan". The idea is that you will enjoy the coffee while talking with someone for hours and the coffee would be still warm because of the charcoal

LOL 😆 ... Foods in Jogja and southern part of Central Java do taste sweet, too sweet even for Javanese from other areas. We love to put sugar, palm sugar, sweet soy sauce to anything. You seem enjoying Soto with only drizzle of calamansi juice. But people from the area will put hefty amount of kecap (sweet soy sauce) in and add sambal as well. It's more of an acquired taste. The more you try, the more you will like it.
@twobetween2 жыл бұрын

in gudeg dish you'll find the rice with gudeg (long cooked jackfruit), sambal krecek (cow skin cooked with sambal), opor soup (the yellow coconut flavour soup), maybe with tempe or tahu bacem (coconut sugared tempe and toffu) , or ayam bacem (coconut sugared chicken/chicken egg), or maybe jeroan bacem/sambal (coconut sugared cow innard/ sambal), and the kopi joss i'm sorry but using espresso doesn't make the coffee taste different because the coffee itself has already have a strong taste, the one that i knew located next to Tugu station opening at night, using not too expensive coffee and using big size glass, more like americano and they add big chunks of burning charcoals, that makes the coffee taste unique

Thank you for visiting Jogja! Anyway, Bakpia Kukus Tugu Jogja is not the actual and original bakpia, they are more like steamed sponge cake. Not long ago, they were criticized about the misleading brand names and product. If you want to try the real bakpia, there's actually an area called Kampung Pathuk, iin Yogyakarta City. There are so many sellers, but the famous one is Bakpia 25. Lots of love for your videos! Ah, it is also a bit shame that you didn't come to the inside of Beringharjo market, they sell not only souvenirs but also local cuisines inside the market.

Indonesia have apps with delivery food ( Gojek, Grab is not for only private transport) Gojek and Grab can bring you a picture recommended or most ordered. even though you're don't understand what the menu is because in Indonesian language. But have a sample picture, address, distance to pick up. You can ordered it and sending to you from your current location or you just want to know the address is and go to the address by yourself. Gojek or Grab driver will bring you there. Apps on AppStore.

The sugar, we called it 'geplak'. It's just a tradisional snack made of shredded coconut and tons of sugar, LOL. while for gudeg, there are 2 kinds of gudeg, the dry one (the one that you tried) and the 'wet' one. The dry gudeg tends to sweeter than the wet one. I'm a yogyanese but I prefer the wet than the dry one. And Yu Djum is one of the sweetest gudeg I've ever tried. Lots of my friends dont like it because it's too sweet. And yes... we love soto. To be exact: clear soup soto. Since in every area of Indonesia, we have our specialty soto. For the coffe joss... ah, you come to the right direction actually. The original kopi joss is just near by that hotel.

Most Jogja food are sweet because back in colonial era, there are a lot of sugar plantation there. So, sugar price is very low back then and i also heard that some of workers paid by sugar (at least part of their salary). But if you hate sweet food, you can visit Tirtodipuran street where there is a lot of western style caffe with still local touch. Or you can get Sate Klatak, goat skewers in south of Jogja. The most famous is Sate Klatak Pak Pong.
