This was so helpful. It's interesting that you moved forward with a prophy even though it's not the recommended treatment but at least you decreased their bacteria load, somewhat. And that why detailed notes are important that you explained the importance of bacteria removal under the gums - pt declined - moved forward with supraging cleaning temporarily.

Yes exactly! We have to work with our patients and do the bare minimum at least. If doing so, the detailed notes are vital. With chairsyde, you can also copy paste a summary of the animations you have shown patient into your notes which is proof that you have explained perio to the patient thoroughly 👌🏼

What would you say when they are diabetic without getting into the physiology of it ? Giving them information they actually understand without overloading them

With diabetes I usually mention that "unfortunately due to your diabetes you are at a high risk of having gum disease and your body will find it more difficult to heal from the inflammation of the gums. This will mean that you will have to be even more on top of your oral hygiene to prevent the gum disease from rapidly progressing". I hope that helps 🙌🏼
