If Brett was nervous, he hid it very well. His playing was confident and strong. (Obviously 40 hours of practice a day had paid off.) He showed that he does have the ability to be a soloist. I've read several comments that say Brett was rushing. I watched the video of Ray Chen's Mendelssohn, and I can't tell the difference in the tempo between his performance and Brett's. I assume Ray's is correct, but maybe he rushes too? But I'm not a critic or even a musician, so maybe my ear just isn't trained as some. In any event, I thought Brett did a great job. I can't imagine the satisfaction and gratitude that fulfilling his childhood dream has brought him. He'll always have this moment to look back on as a great personal accomplishment.

This music was originally performed in 1845. It has therefore been in the public domain for over 150 years by any standard of copyright law. The young performer has worked very hard for most of his life to play this important piece in public with a symphony orchestra. Yet, KZbin says that a third party claims this video violates their copyright. How? KZbin -- do you ever review these claims? KZbin, as a subscriber to your Premium service, please review the false claims of copyright infringement against this submission, and rectify the situation. In court, there are penalties assessed against those third parties who make false claims that have no basis in fact, and are judged as spurious. What are the penalties for those who make false claims of ownership here?

@@jakemontone807 I saw their young, enthusiastic Singaporean audience and I know these young men have a terrific audience. It's like they're the Beatles to these music students, especially female violinists (but not violists). Soon these guys are going to have to travel with bodyguards to keep the girls away, maybe not in Singapore, but when they play the Brahms Double Concerto in Carnegie Hall. Does Brent double on Cello? I don't know where else to complain but here. Maybe, if TwoSet fans wrote complaints, addressed first person to KZbin like I did, in the tens of thousands, KZbin would pay attention. If just 1% of those 4-million followers wrote, that would be an impressive statement, and if we get those kind of numbers, the Singapore press might pick up the story. If KZbin's inconsistently applied "demonitization" policy were brought into the light, like Twitter's problems with Trump, his supporters, and their ignorant, inflammatory tweets in 2020 about the pandemic, the vaccines. unproven treatments. etc. These got Trump et. al suspended and caused Congressional hearings where Twitter said they could handle it -- big companies don't like that kind of PR because they never want government oversight. It is cheaper to fix this copyright non-issue, and pay people what they've earned.

I find myself coming back again and again to enjoy Brett's Mendelssohn. Regardless of the composer's intent for the meaning of the piece, I feel like Brett's interpretation tells the story of a violinist dreaming, practicing, and agonizing over becoming a soloist. I feel like it conveys both the sadness he feels about not becoming a traditional soloist as well as the reverent passion he has for playing the violin despite that. It's a bittersweet story that ends in victory because this journey has all been worth it. He has honestly accomplished something greater than his original dream, and that is TwoSetViolin. The point of performing is to share the beauty and brilliance of music, and he has done it in spades by inspiring so many youngsters (and old heads I'm sure!) to get into classical music and even learning instruments! Congratulations, Brett. This was your moment and you owned it!

I loved the way that both Brett and Eddy had their moment to shine alone in the spotlight. Brett could have seen it as "his" night but he invited Eddy to finish the evening off. It is beautiful to see two friends who simply want the absolute best for each other without any sense of competition or jealousy (and who know each other well enough to pull off a prank like that - I genuinely didn't know what was going on for a moment!)

The opening of the Marriage of Figaro was stunning. I was caught up in the professionalism and flawless technique of the musicians of the Singapore Symphony Orchestra. Their conductor was able to take us into dance, brilliantly starting this evening of celebration. The arrival of Brett and Eddy made me very excited, although I was surprised by the cadet's outfit. It was before Brett explained to us that this is a limited edition of TwoSetApparel, for which I am ready to spend colossal sums. This little moment of discussion relaxed the atmosphere, and I was jubilant at the idea that before being a professional concert, this evening was a privileged moment with Brett and Eddy. Brett reacted very well to the prank with Bruch, haha! But when Mendelssohn violin concerto began... I had chills. As a violinist, I could feel Brett's nervousness, in the first minutes, the first passages. But he quickly felt comfortable, and took us with him in a musical voluptuousness from which I enjoyed. He played these three movements wonderfully, and his emotion at the end of the concerto was undoubtedly shared with each TwoSetter present that evening. Far from France, I felt an unparalleled pride. Eddy arrived, dressed in turn. I noticed that blue and red corresponded well to their musical personalities. I remembered the photos posted on Instagram, Brett in blue light, Eddy in red. Even the Stradivarius were in agreement with their personalities. Indeed, I had finally perceived the sober and elegant character of the Empress Catarina, who knew how to impose herself with all delicacy. Then, they played Bach's double violin concerto. I knew the first movement, for having played it at the conservatory. But the second left me speechless... At one point, am I the only one to have noticed the osmosis of the two protagonists?? To the point that their bows were parallel, their movements were identical!! Bach brilliantly succeeded in creating a dialogue between the Regent and Empress Catarina. The round trips between the stage and the backstage are part of the protocol, isn't it? I think we were all amused by this. And then Brett made a little speech... I almost shouted when I heard the words "Sell Out"! And what a challenge for Eddy, what a challenge!! This interpretation of La Campanella comforted me on the idea that I had of the personalities of both violins. The Regent is bold, inflamed like an enthusiast that could not be contained. Although I could feel the difficulty of a piece written by Paganini, I had pleasure in listening to it, congratulating the two men internally for Sell Out, which indeed used more than two bars. It was then the end of the concert, and the announcement, what an announcement! TwoSet’s World Tour!! Brett, Eddy, thank you very much for this wonderful moment, these two hours of pure pleasure. Thank you for making me laugh every day since 2018, thank you for creating passion in us. Thank you. ❤

Brett's Mendelssohn really made me emotional. I could see and hear just how much this meant to him. Every single note was played with such intensity, such emotion, and for me, that's what makes his rendition better than that of some professional soloists. Even "real" soloists make mistakes. Especially with this piece, any even slightly out of tune or character note stands out immediately... Suffice it to say, Brett plays with wonderful heart and soul here, (and always) also he has improved just immensely over the last several years, this is a wonderful performance, and I'm sure he will have many more. He is clearly an extremely good violinist, what an astonishing opportunity to perform with a great symphony orchestra on a fabulous instrument one of the treasured concerti in the violin literature. :And infact after hearing the full performance, this is basically very nearly as well as anyone can play this, ie soloist level. I love that this is how Brett played the concerto. The slow mvt was quite compelling and the final virtuoso mvt is so difficult, even my (Electa classics vintage Pearlman RECORDING) has a couple out of tune notes near the end.. if Brett gets more chances to play this, I bet he might be able to Make it even better.. but it was beautiful compelling playing!!!

A concert like no other! A concert with humour and chatting with the audience. A concert with 2 strads and TwoSet! A concert with my favourite double violin Bach concerto, where back in the early 1970s as a student in Vienna, I was turning pages in rehearsals for the epic Eduard Melkus and Spiros Rantos recording. I was just 17 years old, a harpsichord and organ student, can you imagine my awe? That recording was done with only Baroque instruments. The second movement played by Melkus and Rantos still remains the best I have ever heard but TwoSet brings fun and vibrancy to a modern audience which in my old age I really do appreciate.

How about we start to organize ourselves and share ideas about how to support TwoSet, and maybe even take on KZbin in large numbers, such that we can defend TwoSet and their hard work? Does anyone know of ways for us all to contact KZbin about this? Or if Brett and Eddy express interest, we could help fund a lawyer for them.

Musicians build up their repertoire throughout their studies, so when they have to play a concert they can focus on polishing it, not learning it from scratch. Hence why Brett was able to play the opening of the Bruch, I'm sure he has all the staples in the violin repertoire memorized to a decent degree. Nevertheless, 2 weeks for polishing La Campanella is a very short amount of time.

Brett looked SO moved and teary afterwards but so happy like he couldn't really believe it. I am so proud!
I've listened to many performances of this piece and I would say what is outstanding in Brett's interpretation is staying really close with his sound to the orkestra. It's really pleasant to listen to because there is intertwining constantly. And being really in tune with his violin, making it shine. Even my husband, who's not into classical music, stayed for the whole concert. Maybe not completely perfect technically or virtuoso level, but more importantly there is something unique and beautifull about Brett's playing, some delicacy and freshness that make you stop and listen. Many times. Thank you!

Very well put. I am always advocating for the emotions over the technical perfection (which is a reason why I don't like competitions). Brett actually provoked a tear or two, and I am usually not that fond of the Mendelssohn concerto. Hahn, for example, her version does not make me cry. That says something, doesn't it?
@niezdarkanna43682 жыл бұрын
@@altoclef6688 Exactly. I was rather surprised listening to Hahn's interpretation, it really didn't work for me. But I guess it all comes back to why we play and listen to the music in the first place: to express and experience feelings, emotions, soul. When there is a match between performer and a caracter of the piece, we get something meaningfull and we want to listen. Even a virtuoso can butcher a concerto on that unexplicable level. I'm really glad Brett found himself in Mendelssohn.

And what a great surprise at the end - I was not expecting Eddy to do La Campanella. The conductor's energy blew me away: he was so great. This just proves how ridiculously high the standards are in classical music. I find Brett's playing to be almost flawless, emotional and expressive. But only when you do a side by side comparison with the top violinists you'll notice some subtle differences in control and tone. If this concert was put on CD I could easily buy it and be completely content with it, even with the knowledge that there are (slightly) better recordings out there.

I lost count how many times I clapped and gasped during Brett's Mendelssohn, it was stunning, breathtakingly beautiful. Breddy's Bach Double brought tears to my eyes and the Strads sounded like they're singing together harmoniously. Eddy's La Campanella is phenomenal I lost words. I am screaming crying clapping in my room alone, so SO PROUD of you guys to finally achieve your dreams. It's been such an honor to witness your growth since Viola Gang and funny skits, 2m and 3m streams with falling balloons & grey curtains, and now HERE. I've replayed Brett's Mendy for maybe the fifth or sixth time, just like his Tchaik 2 yrs ago, also replayed countless times. I don't know how to say, there IS something, some magic thing, in his playing, which could bewitch me deeply. Surely there are so many flawless versions by many soloists, which i love undoubtedly, but I'm not exaggerating my feelings that this version, Brett's version, so sincere, so sweet, full of emotion and joy and vitality, keeps going and going in my head, makes me want to listen to it once and once again.

The Mendelson concerto brought tears to my eyes. This hardly ever happens to me listening to music. I listened to very different music during my life (mostly middle Eastern classical music) I don't know anything about violin concerto's. So I looked up and listened to 3 other violinists playing this piece. That was nice. After that I listened to Brett again and it made my cry again. In Arab music there is this untranslatable word 'tarab'. It has to do with inspiration and emotion. Truly beautiful music is not about playing all the right notes perfectly, it's about feeling the music and making the audience feel it too. Brett's love for the music shines through so clearly. This is a rare talent.
