I’m a non musician who’s done aerial silks/aerial fabrics. The women were all hanging safely (I.e., they weren’t going to fall out) in pretty basic holds. The instruments and the singing, however, THAT was impressive 😀

As a singer, I can tell you, the singing one is next to impossible. Your core muscles are a major part of your instrument, and you can't use them for singing if you're using them for balancing and hanging and swinging. I'm impressed. You can tell it's real because she's never singing while moving positions, which would use more core strength. That woman is amazing.

Incase anyone was curious in the 2nd and 3rd video what the people were on is called silks and I do them and also sing and I cannot even imagine how hard it is with the breath control and the muscles that they needed to activate to stop them falling to their death and play well is truly insane!

So i have done some aerialism (where you perform on strands of fabric) and i would NEVER play my violin while on the silks. That woman is very talented. You need to use your arms and hands a lot for moves, and if a silk is a centimetre out of place, you need to be able to catch yourself, because quite a lot of the time you fall. It would be very difficult to play at the same time because, although it doesn’t look like it, you need your full concentration on the silks. I don’t know much about singing but that opera singer is talented af because you need a lot of strength to hold yourself up and being able to sing at the same time is incredible. All I know is these musicians are extremely talented and definitely practiced 40 hours a day.

3:10 aerialist here, that's one of those tricks that (at least imo) takes a lot of time to learn, but once your body understands which muscles to use, it becomes quite comfortable. the difficult part isn't maintaining the position, but the getting into it/flipping upside down part (which is indeed mainly core strength). when you haven't figured it out yet, it kinda feels like your muscles are working against each other and instinctive reactions like bending your legs to help climb up actually make it worse. But yea.. once you get used to it it's really nice and hanging there is actually very comfortable (it's a bit tight around the waist and feet, but you're completely supported by the silks, so you can give your muscles a break). You see it a lot in duo acts, because it's so stable and the base's arms are free, so someone can hang from them.

When I was 20 I went to physio for back pain. Turns out I just had a weak back and needed to strengthen my muscles. I took up weightlifting and 5 years later could deadlift double my body weight. You don't have to put up with it, get it checked and get it sorted :)
