I used to be a piano mover and I guarantee 100% that Bruno Mars piano has been emptied of all its interior mechanisms. There is no way to pull even the lightest upright piano by oneself. It might be obvious, but jsyk upright pianos are the hardest to move because they are the heaviest with so much crammed inside them (as opposed to a grand piano which has it's mechanisms much more spread out). They are deceptively heavy. I once moved an antique upright grand that weighed 1,500 lbs (or about 700 kilograms). Most pianos have tiny wheels called casters that are meant for moving from interior room to room, but definitely not the street or sidewalk. That is 100% unrealistic to have him pulling it no matter how it's balanced, even with a piano dolly. He'd have thrown out his back in 5 minutes. Edit: corrected my weight conversion (thank you for the person in the replies who pointed it out).

About the Lady Gaga MV (the first one): the band "playing" music instruments is a satire and it looks so wrong on purpose x) In that MV (and that era of Lady Gaga's music) they actually tried to show the fakeness and performative perfection of pop music and pop culture in general. The Artpop album was all about "bringing art back to the pop music"

"Why do so many hip hop artists use flutes?" It's because it is really easy to sample. It gives a clear sound and changing between high notes to low doesn't change the "feel" of the note much, so all you need is for someone to blow a C4 into a mic and you can just pitch that up and down for all the other notes. Few other instruments have such consistent sound between notes, so it is really cheap, quick and easy to sample it.

As a flautist, I have a few comments about the flute song video: In the crowd, there's piccolos along with flutes, as well as a mixing of head/body/foot joint combinations to make a flute-like thing. There's also come other metal flutes which look non-classical, but it's hard to tell from the video. The biggest reason why at 11:48 the flautist looks so wrong is that you are supposed to hold a flute with your left hand on top, holding out on your right side. Otherwise you can't physically reach all the keys. The things that throws me off is that the keys seem to be in the right places (pointing outward in front instead of behind) relative to her hands, which makes me think they mirrored the footage in editing. Also, just all around bad embrasures, hand placement, posture. I hope some other TwoSetters find this helpful.

6:06 Indian violin posture is actually different that western posture; they play sitting on the floor with the scroll of the violin tilted down to rest on the leg, and obviously there's no shoulder rest or chin rest. As a timpani player, I must say that the hit on the rim is the most sacrilegious thing in this video. Not only you're going to break your sticks or cause splinters that are going to damage the timpani head (200$ damage), but you're going to basically fuck up the timpani intonation big time and, worst of all, risking to break the nearly impossible to fix mechanism that ties the rim to a foot pedal, used to adjust the head tension (aka making the timpani just a big drum with an indistinct note, aka useless). A stick hit on the rim is basically the perfect recipee recipee for a 10000$ disaster. Also, the timbre is clearly not from a timpani and, even if it was, you'll need another timpani to make another note like 0.1 seconds later. Violin playing isn't the most sacrilegious thing in this whole compilation guys

I can't tell whether or not you're joking, but I genuinely got curious whether or not that's true. As far as I am aware, there seems to be no confirmation from Lady Gaga as to whether or not calling out the industry was intentional. All I've seen so far was either theories claiming that's the case by fans or the fact that G. U. Y. is an acronym for Girl Under You. Though, I could very well be wrong here. So, if anyone has some interviews suggesting she often puts similar messages intentionally or any direct confirmation that those fan theories were correct, then feel free to let me know! :)

15:03 shocked me so much, because the violin actually has eight fine tuners instead of four. On the other hand, there are violins in other cultures that have doubled strings (always two on top oth eath other), one is to be played on with the bow, the lower ones goes through the middle of the brigde. Could this be such an instrument? That would explain why the bridge looks so strange.

As an Indian, that speaks Telugu (the language of the "violin song"), I know the video has 47 million views but that song was like, a cultural phenomenon. I swear to god, people were obsessed with it. 47 million is a serious underestimation. Even now, the whole "I'll teach you how to play the violin- but romantically" is easily one the top 5 common tropes in Tollywood/Bollywood. Brett and Eddy are my favorite KZbinrs and it was an absolute joy to watch these two worlds collide. Will have so much fun sending this to my friends who are huge fans of this song. Also (Extensive plot ahead) The whole movie is centered around the two protagonists love for music. The male lead is your "Into punk" kinda guy who falls for the "Innocent girl who plays a classical instrument" and it's like a mystery movie. People die, people are killed, there's a love triangle, the mafia is involved, corruption, wayyy too many flashbacks, plot twists and SO. MANY. SONGS. All in all, cringe af, but it literally shook the state of not most of the country to the core.

As a flautist of 8 years I have a few things to say about the flute piece. That one woman had her lips way too far above the hole (the embouchure) when she was pretending to play. Blowing into a flute is like blowing air over the mouth of a glass bottle if your lips are in the wrong spot (either too low or too high) no sound will come out. Plus the hand she had lower on the flute was way too low. The last few keys on a flute aren't keys that you can press down, they actually lift up when you press keys that are higher up on the flute. Also those small flutes could be piccolos by their length, but if you look closely at them they appear to have what looks like mouth holes at both ends with no keys in the middle, it sort of looks like they just had two head pieces and held them together in the middle, but because the shots move so fast I can't be 100% sure. Throughout the various shots you can see multiple people holding the flutes with both hands facing the same way (in reality your top hand should have you fingers facing you and with your lower hand your fingers should be facing away from you) And at 10:45 one of the women on the far right looks like her second hand is holding up the flute by the very end of the instrument! And flutes don't have spit valves like brass instruments so after playing for a while spit just drips out of the end of the flute, which is why you clean the inside of a flute with a spit rag after playing. So yes, if they were actually playing for any amount of time then there would be a lot of spit flying around. Just thought I'd share this and I hope someone finds it informative.

I really want to see them react to Carnatic/Hindustani Violin playing. As someone who's both indian classically trained and western classically trained, I realize there are a lot of things I think are normal but probably aren't. The south Indian songs are usually recorded by amazing artists and the actors always do a terrible job - the comments on the video were probably talking about the violin melody because it's super popular.

Flutes are Loud but not enough unless you have more than two to carry the sound better in a band other wise it drowns out the sound if the quieter instruments you can hear the piccolos because they are small and high pitched so they cut through the loud brass instruments easily for solos a normal flute can’t cut out loud instruments so we need more than two flute so people can here the melody easily same with violin and viola too they are too quiet on their own so they have more violinist than brass because they are loud I know this because I been in both type of band to understand this.

As a flautist, I must admit that I've never seen so many sacreligious ways to hold a flute in such a short amount of time. It's meant to be held to your right although there are disgraceful inventions called "left handed flutes". 11:49 As a flautist, the finger MOVEMENTS are actually seemingly ok (they don't necessarily match the track though). The embouchure is also not terrible, but not good either. It's good enough to fool most non-musicians which is more effort than usual. HOWEVER, there are two huge problems: 1) The image is flipped, which tripped me the fuck out (but I understand if it's a copyright thing) 2) Her left (?) hand - the one closest to her face - is positioned about 2 keys further up the body than it should be. Ignoring the thumb, your left hand fingers should be as follows: (gap) - (C vent) Index - C (lever) (gap) - (Bb vent) Middle - A Ring - G Pinky - G# She's on: Index - (C vent) Middle - C (lever) Ring - (Bb vent) Pinky - A Basically, she's pressing 2 keys that should never be pressed manually on the flute. The motions she is making are fine I guess, but they're on the wrong keys. Also the mini flute things that the extras are waving around look like plastic/metal fifes.

If you’re interested, the footage they showed is exactly how the music video is. They didn’t flip it for copyright reasons. So, either, the editor flipped the footage for the music video as an artistic choice, or it was just wrong on set. Either way, it’s not good lol
