"Classical music is boring, and all sounds the same." Please, we've got string quartets, wind quintets, brass ensembles, solo instrument sonatas like piano sonata or Bach's Cello Suites, solo instrument concertos with full orchestra, symphonies, oratorios, large choir works, small choir ensembles, operas and their overtures. We've also got six dynamic markings, five different instrument families, each of which has their own unique sounds and can produce up to four different timbres each (unlimited sounds for percussion). We've got fast movements, slow movements, moderately paced movements, and and at least 7 different regularly used tempo markings, and use 3/8, 3/4, 4/4, 2/4, 6/8, 9/8, 2/2, 12/8, and many more time signatures. We've got melodies with ranges as much as two octaves and harmonies with first, second, and even third inversions, modulations from one key to another, and harmonic progressions that deal with all 7 chords in a given key, as well as augmented 6th chords, and other non-diatonic chords, as well as chromaticism and atonality. Pop standardized vocal, bass, drums, guitar, keyboard, and a variety of synth sounds with compression that limits the dynamic range within a few decibels, with everything at either 68bpm or 120bpm at either 4/4 or 6/8 time signature playing out four chords in root position in a single key for a singer with a range of a 5th.

I wasn't a musician, but when I had my mental breakdown and lost my job, I decided to teach myself to learn to read sheet music, you know, just to pass the time, stay sane and because I've always kind of wanted to be able to. And in that pursuit, got to listen to a lot of classical music, which in turn made me want to start learning piano. Been taking lessons now for 6 months and loving it :) Also just bought my first violin, but piano is main priority, and my teacher is awesome. Either way, my point is that classical music is not dying, and young (34 is young, contrary to statements by family members) people do like it. Just a last thing; when I started playing piano, my family laughed at me for 2 hours, mocking me because "what on earth do you want to do that for? You can't play Slayer on the piano!" (I listen to heavy metal, among other things), and they didn't seem to grasp the concept of listening to multiple genres and enjoying them for what is unique to them specifically. Like, of course I didn't start piano because I wanted to play Slayer on it you dipsh.... Then again, didn't do it to play Chopin either, because holy balls does that make you depressed after a while hahah
@anaphainesai5 жыл бұрын
Yeah Chopin can be very romantic and nostalgic, and afterwards I'm like 'why do I feel nostalgic all of a sudden? everybody in my family is doing fine, me too, so where does this come from...? Ah yes Chopin of course, quick quick let's play something else! But anyway it's really great that you taught yourself to read sheet music and to play the piano. Playing classical music has incredible healing powers! (er, romantic russian composers excepted, maybe. Prokofiev and Shostakovitch are just brutal. no offence)

I had a Latin teacher who loved classical music. He also taught literature. We could chose a literature module to follow each semester (four teachers so four modules). He decided to do a module about classical music with the focus on Bernstein (the composer from Westside story). His module was so popular that more than 30 students (the maximum) enrolled so not everyone who wanted could follow his module. Around the time the module was finished, an orchestra playing Bernstein's music was in our city. So the teacher bought 10 tickets for students who would like to go there. He had to buy ten extra because twenty of us wanted to go. I was sick that day, slept the whole day, had head ache, everything. Didn't eat anything. But still went there, no way I was gonna miss that! Concerts are usually quite expensive here. As a student you get some discount, but even then tickets are like 35 euro. I'd rather go to the cinema three times with that money (and still have some left to buy popcorn with). But now that the chance was presented, we all took it with both our hands! I think that this shows very well that classical music is also popular among the youth and not only for bald and old people!

It's now been three years and (ofcourse i don't like every piece that i hear) i love going there now. I was doing the followspot for Madama Butterfly 17 shows long and i absolutely fell in love with that opera. "Classical music" is something you gotta open up to, you gotta explore what you like and don't like, just like some people will only listen to the top 40 and others will go out of their way to find some odd, small time rapper.

Hi, I am a Jack of All Trades casual musician. I first started playing piano when I was 5 and I taught myself. When I was 8, my music teacher taught us how to play snippets of classical songs on a recorder, and when I was 11 I played the flute. My brother was always a big guitar player, so I learnt that too, and now I play the ukulele. I can't play FLIGHT OF THE BUMBLEBEE on any of these instruments, but I CAN play most of the Legend of Zelda songs. I am in love with classical music and would love to play more of it, but because I switch instruments so often, I have a hard time keeping up with all of them long enough to learn things like cello suit no. 1 prelude on the guitar with a pen, you know? I think music is so integrated into human lives because it is the true essence of raw emotion. I get feels from everything I play, even 4 chord songs. My point is, EVEN UNTRAINED PEOPLE CAN LIKE CLASSICAL MUSIC. IT IS WONDERFUL AND HAS OUTLASTED TIME FOR A REASON. AWESOME SHIT, IT IS. And a lot of pop music "borrows" from classics anyway

Problem: "Classical music is boring" Solution: "Perform Paganini's Caprice with hulahoop"

I literally cracked up when they put Jimin and Mozart's picture together in a heart lmaooo I am an ARMY for years, I grew up listening to pop songs but classical music is not bad. You guys made me appreciate violin music and I know a few songs now which I love much. Watching your videos made me appreciate music in a deeper and classical sense (like seriously). I'm looking forward on your journey for the next few years. Sending lots of love to you Eddy and Brett 💜
