I don't know if it's just me, but it's funny how I think Eddy's playing is really like out there, his energy goes outwards filling the place. He's like throwing a ball at me and I better catch it because it's coming at me anyway. Brett on the opposite his energy goes inwards, it pulls you/ invites you in his private space. He's like keeping a secret place, but opens the doors just for the time of the piece. ... yeah, that's probably just me😅😂

Honestly, this kind of highlights one of the difficulties of piano that a lot of people take for granted: melody. Learning how to master accentuating the melody, and the other parts, as individual lines and not just chords, takes a lot of understanding of the piece and a lot of good control. And learning how to make them sound good, without having the lines standout like a sore thumb, but sing from out of the harmonies, is even more work. Especially for composers like Beethoven or Rachmaninoff. It’s something that even professional pianists, at least from amateur’s and an avid listener’s perspective, can sometimes struggle with. It’s a lot easier to bring that out with another instrument. But when it’s done well on the piano it’s just…*chefs kiss*

I love these videos where Brett and Eddy actually perform, and not just play snippets of pieces of music. You can see in their eyes and in their physique just how focused they are, but also how deeply rooted they are in the music and what they're doing. Sure, they're funny guys and all; they're human and they love to laugh and roast things, but at the end of the day they are musicians who LOVE what they're doing and why they're doing it. They aren't playing because they were forced to as kids or because they make lots of money... They're playing because they like it and love it. I especially love watching Eddy's expressions. They absolutely melt my heart!

I think for Clair de Lune, the violin is a great accompany instrument because it adds fluidity to the sound. However, the piano by itself is still the best way to hear/play this piece, because it is such a more peaceful sound. (The violin can be calm, but will always have that passionate undertone ;) )

Have to disagree on the 1st example. Nocturne Op. 9 No. 2 was meant almost as a lullaby. It does sound lovely on a violin. However there is a more gentle and delicate quality that the piano brings to the piece that I think better suits the aim of the composition.
@efedaghanbagatur5115
@efedaghanbagatur5115 3 жыл бұрын
While I do agree there is definitely a "nocturnal" element to the pieces; I don't think they are lullabies. For example Op. 48 No.1 or Op. 55 No. 1 have sections that are way over the top for a lullaby 😁

@@efedaghanbagatur5115 that's true. But I am only referencing the specific Chopin piece chosen for this video...which is very much like a gentle lullaby. The violin sounds nice, but it falters on capturing the mood; especially as the violin hits those high notes. The high notes for this piece, when compared to the piano, can come off as a bit shrill when compared to the more even tone you get from the piano.

Wedding-day at Troldhaugen, along with almost all of Grieg's pieces nearby this collection the piece ended up in, are actually deeply inspired by (or almost literally are) folk-tunes intended to be played on the double-stringed hardingfele. So they are all suited for violin, even though the sheet music will sort of mirror a "polite, quiet rich man's party with music in the background". So, good call on the bow-pressure, Eddy :D That was really neat.

in my personal unbiased opinion, and this is only a subjective view on this, debussy’s pieces sound better on the piano than the violin 🤭 there’s something about the softness of the sounds the piano makes that is needed in clair de lune and rêverie that simply cannot be replicated on string instruments! the violin, however, does express the rushing and skippy nature of the piano sonata and the wedding day at troldhaugen quite well

as a pianist, I couldn't agree more. i think it's how Debussy's pieces almost blend the left hand accompaniment and the melody together, and you can do that with enough skill on the piano, but it's just so hard to blend the crisper violin sound with the softer accompaniment. like you can't make it sound as if both parts are equally as important, but you could with the piano. i genuinely can't figure out how to describe what i wanna say but ye

I don't think it will catch the same clarity as piano can. That is my only problem with ravel's orchestration of pictures at an exhibition, in the second movement (gnomus or something like that), the strings section just cannot match the clarity and speed of a piano there. I think the same will happen with other fast piano pieces because violin is limited by it's 4 strings and having to shift between positions, while pianists have a lot more notes within close reach (logically the piano is better for piano pieces lol)
