This is not satire, this is not just nostalgia, this is not some praise of the USSR: This is simply remembrance of a foregone past for which some people had high hopes but that suddenly just disappeared. A good song like this but in a more modern, pop like fashion is "building blocks" (The Tetris song)...same thing there.

Growing up in the "Cold War" in the USA I have been delighted by every song I'ved viewed by this group. However, this song made me weep. Satire? I have never found mass extermination much of a satirical topic. The Lenigrad Cowboys are the best at what they do. Thank you guys!!! And much thanks to commentor who wrote "even Stalin died under Stalin."

A stunningly beautiful and heartfelt song! It tears the soul! The best Rock song is about what the loyal Leningraders felt in the early 90s. And it's just amazing that the Finns wrote this song, so subtly and accurately conveying that anguish. I, as a Leningrader and an old metalhead, thank the Leningrad Cowboys band for this song, for the album Go Space, and for their creativity in general! Bravo and thank you! 👏🏻✊🏻🤝🏻😊🤘🏻

I disagree about it being about the Revolution of 1917. The city of St. Petersburg was founded in 1703 by Peter the 1st as a new capital city. The city was also known as Petrograd from 1914 to 1924. But the name Leningrad was officially adopted by the new communist government from 1924 until 91. So...saying "give me back my Leningrad" is in reference to it being changed back to its original name of St. Petersburg in 91. As far as what the song means.. i have no idea. Just a little history les.

Luthien, the sad tone in the song and the true film material are about sympathy towards the suffering neighbors. The people in Russia have suffered a lot under its emperors, communism and many will definitely suffer under Mr. Putin, too. Leningrad Cowboys is a satire comedy rock band from Finland founded in 1986 when the again and again very unpleasantly acting neighbor was called the Soviet Union.

Well..actually the Leningrad Cowboys are from Finland. The band was born out of a Finnish comedy movie made over 15 years ago called Leningrad Cowboys Go America. The members have changed over the years but still carry on the same concept: great music in a comedic mode. The video and song are in that same venue - it is a parody.

@kayjay83 I think it is about the feelings of someone coming back to his hometown St. Petersburg after the fall of the iron curtain in the early 1990´s only knowing the city past (his Leningrad) and finding something completely diffrent.

It is sad that this needs to be reminded to a large number who view this -- the video is by the Leningrad Cowboys, a Finnish rock-comedy band who began life with the comedic Finnish film, "Leningrad Cowboys Go America". This video is a satirical/comedic analogy. It is bloody good musically, but still -- it is SATIRE.

Yes, yes, I know. The reason why they became famous was the co-operation with Red Army which started in the 1990s. Before this they were quite unknown. Sorry if I was not exact enough in my post, since this is what I meant for saying "unknown band". And I live in Finland, so I know exactly it's location in Europe :)
