We're Going to Loretta's!

In the tenth episode of this mini-series, we dropped the gate on the second day of racing the Tomahawk MX LL Regional and punched a ticket to go to the Ranch! Kiah put on quite the show for all of us, pushing herself like we've never seen before. Tate had an unfortunate streak of bad luck, so we will hit the next regional in hopes of him getting a ticket as well! More racing will come soon so stay tuned on the Reed's Road to Loretta's!

As you know the kids are all in all really killing it and it is great to watch their skills grow. You and Chad are great coaches and parents. Tate clearly isn't ready for this level of competition. Let him; race local races on a stock bike, have him get a job and help pay for bike maintenance (oil, lube, tires, gate fee at track) Johnny O'Show in his early days; raced locally for years, worked to early money to pay some race related expenses.... O'Show didn't have a full ride like Tate does. Question for y'all: does Tate being filmed and put on KZbin put too much EXTRA pressure on this kid? I wonder if Mom and Dad ever offered to not film Tate and NOT put him on KZbin? If mom and dad just let Tate ride and race locally, with the main objective being Tate enjoying riding and NOT having dad micro-manage everything - Tate would probably evolve and progress better because he started enjoying what he is doing. It looks like Tate is not enjoying himself and might be caving into the pressure cooker? Please note: my thoughts only matter inside my own head. I am not assuming that anyone agree with what I wrote..... my words do not matter outside my head.

These races are purely for learning also. If u want to get to the level - u have to feel it and be part of it. He’ll be ok. He’ll learn from it and we’ll see what he can do with it next weekend. He has one more shot at it. He’s been watched since he was born. So it’s not abnormal to him and if at any time he said I don’t want to be filmed -we would do it . he just wants it badly and he is trying to figure out where he fits in. Mostly he just has to realize he can be there. Once he does . It’s gonna be a lot of fun. But he has to find that belief in himself. I can attitude changes lives. No matter what u do.

Congratulation Kiah. She has went absolutely Beast Mode the last 3 videos. I was crushed for her when she had the DNF for a bike problem and no fault of her own. She was smoking through the rollers. She was making me nervous. Then that line where she was sweeping outside and then slingshotting into those rollers was unique. That is the type of stuff that Jean-Michel Bayle, Jeff Emig and Brian Swink (R.I.P) would do back in the day. Creativity.

Mix that with the desire to become great while being surrounded by great talent can be overwhelming. I believe you are giving him the right amount of room to grow while still being involved. Back in the day I'm sorry to say but I always rooted against ya Chad, call it American pride, but watching this channel from it's inception has really made me a huge fan of you and your family. You need to buy Tate a 110. Give him a shovel and tell him to go build some trials with jumps. This will teach him to ring that thing out. How to use each gear and what you can do with your hips to get that bike to scrub, pump and so much more. Sexton credits it.

In my opinion it's incredible how fast Tate and Kiah have come in a short time. Tate needs to remember that all those other kids have been going hard probably since before kindergarten and him and Kiah basically just recently started getting serious with competing. I agree with many as Tate has come a very long way in a short period of time… Most that he is competing against have been doing this for a lot longer than he has and saying he shouldn’t be at this level of racing is nonsense to me… He has been very competitive and the only way to get to the next level, is to see where you stand… Plus, does that mean anybody that’s outside the top five should stay at the local level??? Reminds me of spending years on travel ball. Yes I know this is a much higher level. Not even the same category. That said, at the end of it all, I wish we’d have just spent more time playing catch. He was a hard hitter from tball. As a matter of fact he got kicked out of t-ball because he hit too hard. He was in the Wisconsin coaches hall of fame magazine and parents came from other fields to watch him hit but that’s not where HIS heart was at. We got to have a lot of great experiences we never would’ve had otherwise but man, if I could trade it all to have just had that no pressure catch and enjoyed little league…yeah. THAT is something we missed out on. You could have your family in an RV riding mountain trails on the weekend.

Yes got it. We do not show up for us. He has set a goal and we are first time going after the goal- Kiah set a goal and has achieved . Mountain trails are fun. But that’s not what they set as their goal. We don’t quit just because it’s hard and we don’t tell them sorry you’re not good enough without even trying. So many families show up and their kids probably not going to make it. But they learn and have the experience and then they love it or hate it and decide from there. Business is hard, life is hard, competition sports is hard. But avoiding hard things never taught anyone anything. We can do hard things. ❤

@@OutdoorOathwe get an opportunity to head to Montana early July!! So that will be so fun!! This whole LL thing has a life of its own- the kids wanted to try . I thought it was a bit early but then decided - learning is the valuable part of being there . Kiah made it and Tate has another chance next weekend . Either way - it’s shown his strength and weaknesses and that’s the best part. Keep learning ❤

Maybe Tate needs a sports psychologist. They may pinpoint some issues with intrinsic/extrinsic motivations, or possibly he is going through the journey of SDT (Self-determination theory). Kiah going great, aboriginal name. 💪
