Thanks for the information about the origin of "TWSBI." Interesting. I had thought it was an acronym or an anagram. Now the Logo makes sense, rather than an abstract.

I’ve loved my a TWSBI for some time. Even debating purchasing the vac and the 580 for longer than I reasonably should’ve given the price. Still I’m quite pleased with the look and wow factor of the 580 especially in this rainbow finish. Thanks David, for this fun review and I hope China’s maintenance completes its work the next time you visit.

I love the TWSBI 580 it the fountain that pulled me into the fountain pen hobby. I now have two 580s and will probably get a VAC700R in Iris soon.

I didn't know they did a 580 Iris edition. I've got the Vac700r in iris and it's gorgeous. I use it every day for work notes since it has such a large ink capacity and it's a good conversation starter!

absolutely love my 580s. Phenomenal value in them. Almost as good writers as my Lamy 2k, and for less than half the price.

Nice review, David. I have a 580 Navy, and it's my favorite pen. My Pilot 823 writes smoother, but that one is pretty formal. I like the look and utility of the TWSBI, and with a bit of sanding, it writes fine and has been my go-to pen for quite a while now.

I wasn't going to watch this video(a "NEW" video on the 580?); but,I'm sure glad I did. Figboot can make almost anything more interesting than it might seem at first glance! Now I want to watch Figboot in China. I can't imagine a better guide! I have a Diamond 580 AL R with Navy trim. Mine came with the metal ring at the top of the cap so sharp it could shave. I used a nail file to dull it(it looks custom now!) My Vac700R has plain trim; I love the looks of the faceted, black vacuum-knob vs. the clear one on the Iris. I thought it was very cool to show the TWSBI GO in the size comparison! Great review, sir.

Thanks for the review .. got me thinking. I have two Ecos, really like their nibs, but both have cracked sections at the end where the nib goes in, and these pens were bought before COVID and have only lived at home on my desk, so treated carefully. Disappointing really, even if I can get a replacement section for cost of shipping. I wonder if the 580 hold up better, less likely to crack since they seem to have a reinforced section toward the nib.
@ToniHinton Жыл бұрын
I never had the cracking problem with my Ecos, though my husband had one. That said, the Diamond 580 was my first "real" pen too when I started really getting into fountain pens. I have a few, my oldest one was bought in 2015 and it's never given me a moment's trouble. I think the problem with the plastic was limited to the Ecos.

Absolutely loved my Twsbi580 which I bought with both F and EF nib units: had it inked with Diamine imperial blue:) - this pen is perfect: love it’s piston mechanism, love the aesthetics, absolutely love the feel of both nibs and have kept but not yet used my wrench and silicon gel!; thanks for this:)

Great review David. I have this model. And found it to be a joy to use. The nib is a bit scratchy but over time it should smooth out. I only wish it came with a larger nib, but that is a personal preference.

Pen pillory: perfect. Thank you for explaining the distinction between stocks and pillories. I confess knowing the difference doesn’t not make me want to experience either. I also enjoyed the side trip to China. You said the bathroom was rated four stars, but you didn’t tell us if you agree with that rating. Was it accurate? Why? How many stars is possible for a bathroom to receive? Would you visit that bathroom again? I have a great regard for TWSBIs and have more than In ought to possess, but I used them frequently. I often find rainbow pens rather gf garish, but I think TESBI hit the sweet spot between TOO BRIGHT and understated with this finish. I do like that green ink. Thank you for another great review!

Love the videos. Can you show us when you ink the pen? Inking a vac filler from sample bottles is not alway s possible. Watching or seeing how the pen is filled can help make decisions.

I loved my Eco, but then one day I failed to post it correctly and the cap fell off my standing desk and landed on a tile floor and it broke. It was just the weight of the cap from about 1m height. I won't be buying a TWSBI ever again. I'm not the only one with durability problems. It's a brightly colored BIC Crystal with a piston or vac filler.

What a great video, love that you are revisiting a pen after some time of use. And, love the trip history with the pen along for the journey. I have a TWSBI Eco and it's a great pen, except for long writing sessions where I'm writing fast. It will always cut out on loopy letters, like d, a, and g. I don't know if this is just my pen or what. I would love the get a Diamond 580, possibly Vac. But can those pens keep up with fast writing? I know you do a fast sample, but I'm curious if it can withhold for a whole line of full words particularly on the letters, a, d, and g. Basically, the ECO cuts out on the top of those letters consistently when I write fast.

David I would appreciate your feedback on a question I have. I bought a shimmer ink Emerald of Chivor by J Herbin and my retailers here in Athens would not recommend any fountain pen for such inks for fear of clogging, and thus would only suggest dip pens. Now this pen is not highly priced, is of very good quality, has a stub nib to its arsenal and can be disassemled. Would you recommend I get one to enjoy this ink?
@FigbootonPens Жыл бұрын
This pen would be perfect for Emerald of Chivor. No worries necessary.

I have used emerald de chivor in my Lamy, Kaweco, Twsbi and Opus 88. No clogging. Besides if you do get a little hard start, just clean the feed and go! They wouldn’t make shimmer ink if it was a major problem for pens. I do recommend a broad nib or larger to really enjoy shimmers! I agree, Twsbi would be great if you’re still weary.🙂
@wickidgrrl Жыл бұрын
Also before you use your pen, turn it and roll it a bit to get the ink and the shimmer mixed well.

The "rainbow" treatments on pens has never really appealed to me. It just seems a bit too ostentatious for my tastes. Having said that, I have multiple TWSBI pens. I have an embarrassing number of ECO's, and some other models, and I have two Diamond 580 ALR pens, in silver and Prussian Blue. The MOMENT I saw that Prussian Blue I said "Need! Need now!" I got mine in extra fine, and I really do enjoy using it, though usually by the time I've finished a full fill of ink through it, I'm ready to write with something else. Good review of the TWSBI overall, though! Thanks!

I gazed longingly at this pen at a store for several weeks. I resisted successfully for two reasons. One: I own an Eco. Wonderful pen. Two: I couldn't justify $80. Especially not with scores of homeless begging for change on the streets nearby. I would have walked past them with this in my pocket. 🥴
