I am not a knot novice. These are super easy and widely versatile knots. Throw in a truckers hitch, which is also kind of an overhand, and you can handle just about any situation. Great video!!!

I also use knots in gardening, but working with twine, I need something simple and quick: a Bowline around the tomato stem, and 2 half hitches to secure the stem line to a pole. The Bowline is a fixed loop knot, and therefore leaves room for the stem to grow. The half hitches are good enough to get me through the gardening season, and easy to undo if I want to save the twine for next year. Other knots if I'm working with rope to secure a tomato pole that's falling over, but other knots are whatever I think of at the time. See John Suscovich's 3 most used knots on farm (bowline, clove hitch, taut line): kzbin.info/www/bejne/p4DUpn5sZ92oobM

Thanks, also, for tying the knots slowly; it is the perfect speed. . ****You may already have covered this, and I missed it, but what length line(s) do you recommend for practice? *****(Or, perhaps one of the other commentors could tell me what length? ****) This video is just the thing for me, as I can re-play it over and over again. Another outstanding Video, your Multi Tool Vids are real good, but your Knot Tying/Rigging videos are USN Training Film Quality lol , Ben I think showing how to untie the knots after they have been under load would been the 100% training film, gotta get a knife with a Marlin Spike for those unrigging times where someone "didnt know a knot so he tied alot" your knot videos remind me of this ol crusty BM1 Diver I worked for when I was a young Deep Sea Diver he really knew his stuff and could explain it. USN should use you for basic Seamanship Knot Tying Training Videos, Hooyah MCPO/MDV USN Ret

Almost. The difference is that the standing end routes through the overhand knot instead of the working end. That allows the two overhand knots to be worked against one another to act as a lock. Commonly referred to as the Bush Crafter’s Zip Tie.

That last knot is one I’ve tried before & it always comes apart on me. I’m a knitter & sometimes I want to join another strand of yarn to an existing strand & rather than just adding the new yarn & want to anchor them together first. In knitting this is called a magic knot but it just doesn’t hold. Idk, maybe I cut the ends too short?

Hello Ben. How much rope would you keep on hand in your work truck. I like to have two lengths at 25 feet of quarter inch solid core climbing rope. Takes a knot very well. Then a bag with 100 feet of the same. This I use for very light duties in extending the winch on my work truck. It tends to get pretty dirty which I then put it in a pillow case and in the washing machine from time to time. This from Petzl the maker of the rope. Says won’t damage it. A quick tip for you for keeping a bit of grime out of your life. Cheers from Wales for another great video.

I keep a variety of ratchet straps, 2 25 foot lengths and one 50 foot length of 5/16 paramax, as well as a number of shackles. My work trailer has two 100 foot 5/8” ropes and one 150 foot.

To the person who was led here to learn how to tie a knot to kill yourself- I’ve been there- just take a moment, and take a deep breathe in and out. Repeat this 3 times and say “I am good enough, I am loved, I have a purpose”. Even if you don’t agree with these words keep saying it and repeating it out loud to yourself. Hold your hand on your heart and feel that heart beat in your chest. That heart beat used to be a tiny heart beat forming in the womb of your beautiful mother. You know that laugh you have? That cheeky smile? Your dad has dearest memories of you as a little boy or girl running around their legs, happy, care free giggling and laughing. God made you perfect. Don’t be so hard on yourself. Remember the people who love you. Even if it isn’t family, but a friend, or your pet cat or dog or bird. Don’t leave them behind with a broken heart. They need you and we all need you to stay alive. Tomorrow will be a better day. God loves you pray to him and tell him how you feel and he will send angels to protect you and uplift you. You are loved never forget that ❤

Pretty sure you're talking about a reef knot. It's two mirrored overhand knots tied one on top of the other to look like two interlocking bends in the line. I've heard it called a parcel knot, hercules knot, square knot. I'm sure there's more names. The common way of tying it is "left over right and under, right over left and under." Fun fact, if you tie the second step backwards you get a "granny knot".
