This actually isn't a Radiohead cover. They do, however, have a song with the same title (which appears on their Hail to The Thief album). The term 2 + 2 = 5 actually originates from Orwell's novel 1984. Good song, nonetheless!

Just a clarification: I wasn't talking about the YEAR 1984; I was talking about the novel Nineteen Eighty-Four by George Orwell, which was released in 1949. Did Bob Seger System write 2+2=? before 1949?
@thekidwiththething12 жыл бұрын
not being a smart arse but search bob seger system 2+2. Much earlier that 84 peace

its originally by Bob Seger and yes its about Vietnam.
@leesnyder11124 жыл бұрын
Well the lyrics are pretty straight forward. The song starts with the lyrics, "Yes it's true I am a young man / But I'm old enough to kill / I don't wanna kill nobody", that tells you that he is going to Vietnam as he was selected possibly by the draft lottery. Another part says, "And if I raise my hand in question / You just say that I'm a fool / Cause I got the gall to ask you / Can you maybe change the rules", these lyrics start Bob Seger's questioning of why he is called a fool when he questions why he has to go kill people for his country. Bob Seger wrote this song as one of his early efforts of making anti-war rock music. Seger states that even though he's not a genius, he still knows how to add 2+2, and that he knows that sending young people to Vietnam is a bad idea.

Although, I will give you credit for identifying this as a Seger cover. I was not aware of that before. I tend to equate Bob Seger with painfully artless songs, such as "Like a Rock". Peace.
