Segall is definitely into the The Kinks. 2:10 of the first track off his new EP, is identical to the middle part of "Mr. Churchill Says" by The Kinks and the opening of "Feel" from Manipultor by Segall is nearly the same as the opening to "Powerman" by The Kinks. It's really cool, the way he pays tribute to bands that he digs in these little ways.
@MarceloHenkin8 жыл бұрын
+SylentEcho what's this song you are talking about (2:10 of the first track...which EP?) ? i'm curious. anyway, nice comment. kinks is one of the best bands ever (and also underrated, in my opinion. they have such awesome songs even before 1967, on their earlier records, for example till the end of the day, all day and all of the night, everybody's gonna me happy, dancing in the street, you shouldn't be sad...). and ty segall is a genius of our generation, maybe one of the few that will left us a legacy (as older artists did, like bowie, lou reed, etc).
@SylentEcho8 жыл бұрын
marcelo I was talking about the first track of the "Mr. Face" EP by Segall. Ray Davies is one of the top 5 songwriters ever, alongside Brian Wilson and Lennon/McCartney. Kink Kontroversy - Powerman was their best era. All of their early stuff is nothing short of amazing and I can never decide which my favourite Kinks album is from that era. Check out their 1981 album, "Give The People What They Want". It was pretty cool, too.
@MarceloHenkin8 жыл бұрын
SylentEcho i love the album Lola vs Powerman. also village green, arthur, face to face...great albums. but my favorite i think is Something Else (especially with the bonus track on the cd reissue). i just don't understand why this album is so underrated. but i must say i haven't heard with attention the records from the late seventies and eighties...i should listen to them. it's because the previous ones are so good...hahah
@SylentEcho8 жыл бұрын
marcelo Yeah, I agree. Something Else is an awesome album. One of my favourites for sure! Not much of what they did after the 60s was all that great, but there's 3 really good albums; "Give the People what they want", "State of Confusion" and "Muswell Hillbillies". Check those out.
