I really liked this conference on the american banking system. The lecturer was so good at HotS though.

And here we see the reason for the decline of America. Rather than getting an actual education this ignorant masses get their information from someone like a steamer, who while not completely ignorant, is missing so many key pieces of the subject they might as well be for the purposes of informing others. No real shade at you for his fan, but if you take it that way I don't care. You made way too many mis statements and left out points in the first 5 minutes that I don't understand why you even felt the need to comment on the subject. This is why I generally leave the sound off.

The issue is that they’re only fully insuring deposits at this bank. More businesses with payroll than retirees, still a bad issue but this is an example of a policy that helps the rich because if it were to actually happen on a scale that effects retires those deposits won’t be insured
@FanHOTS
@FanHOTS Жыл бұрын
Yeah that is an issue I agree but I do think that if it affected another bank that screwed a lot of innocent people's retirements they would step in as well. We may never know until it happens though

Tax payers are not bailing anyone out, the funds are from the collective fines made against banks. Its explicitly set up so the taxpayer holds no burden for bank failings. Additionally, the bailouts are for people with up to 250k (I think) saved in the bank

Imagine giving someone your money to hold on to for safe keeping, they blow through it with bad investments, luxurious vacations, coke and blow. And when you go to get you 50 million out, there reply "sorry we don't know what happened to you bank but here's 10 million of your 50 million." And being ok that it happened. That's not ok in any reality.... Oh did I mention that money that the guy you gave that 50mil to hold onto, didn't even give you the 10 mil, but it came from yours and others tax money....?

The bank was allowed to be less secure. The lesson gained is who need the security when you be bailed out 100%. Most of people forced the run on bank anyway out fear so lesson also give into fear. The fed jumped in just so it wouldn't spread fear. Regardless those that did try cash out all their money out fear shouldn't get a penny. They are the ones made the problem happen to begin with. As far I tell the bank itself did nothing over all wrong. Oh yeah but I could be wrong think ceos and stuff cashed out stock and they always be a ceo somewhere else they are not hurting.
@kresovk5
@kresovk5 Жыл бұрын
Exactly, they might not be directly helping out bank with taxpayer's money, but it's the fact that CEO and likely others already bailed out and will go away with pockets full of money, makes it in fact, helping them out. If someone robs a bank and you don't retrieve that money and punish them, it's as if you skipped first act and went straight to giving them money from other source.

The SVB knowingly invested account holders money in highly volatile and risky acquisitions that bellied up. The CEOs knew they couldnt save the bank so instead they cashed in their shares and jumped ship before word got out that the bank had no ability to recover and was not giving account holders their checking/savings money back. They cashed out when other people had their money invested in SVB, so they were able to do it when its value was high; weeks before SVBs value swan dove into the concrete. If thats not theft, idk
@FanHOTS
@FanHOTS Жыл бұрын
Yeah I agree any kind of cashing out of CEOs right beforehand should be punished, that's a different matter than letting the bank fail and depositors lose all money above 250k though. In regards to bank doing something highly risky and volatile, I think they just bought 10 year treasury bonds at a low interest rate, that was seen as one of the least risky things you could put money in at the time they did it IMO, so I wouldn't agree with that. Noone knew the FED would raise rates a million times over in a short period of time at that time.

@@FanHOTS As I am at work on again off again wording this. First off let me say thanks to your reply I do love your content and your thoughts on matter, but in my lazy haste I did not go fully go into detail on why I think going past fdic is a bad thing. One thing is I can't recall and I can't easly find, but one of the failing banks was not fdic at all so banking at your own risk and still being bailed out is like a five man with bronze player pushed into gm with buddies. They never know failure or how bad they are blissfully able to do whatever. What I fear the fed will bail you out no matter what, risk be damned. "Many Americans have a long way to go when it comes to affording retirement. According to the survey, 36% have less than $10,000 saved. Not far behind them is the 27% of Americans who have between $10,000 and $50,000 saved. Additionally, 15% have between $50,000 and $100,000 saved, and 9% have $100,00 to $200,000." - www.yahoo.com/now/retirement-savings-compare-average-american-110056149.html So just numbers alone I say that most people are covered. Now we talk ramafications of company losing money as a separate issue for sure. I disagree the fed was trying up interest rates sense before covid, but had to stop. Injected more money into a economy. Pumping billions dollars into country with already low interest rates and you can't see this coming? I work a 12 factory job I seen this coming. Did I just download the mini map dlc and not the big banks? I mean it is possible even bronze beats gms time to time. You will get a idea just off this alone in why it going to need to raise by just knowing some history. - www.forbes.com/advisor/investing/fed-funds-rate-history/ This 3 years old at least by upload about thoughts on bonds someone far smatter than me on the topic so while safe it not profitable - kzbin.info/www/bejne/pJyblaemaspjoqs So I can't easly find the info the bank not fdic should not get such protections that was the point. The ones that are should. Any ceo that sold out or any top heads of company should be punished. They not only messed up clients but also shareholders. If you want argue that company's should get money back I would agree, but fed should not give it all enough to operate for a few years and a decent windfall. Basicly anything that hurt ceo and board payouts. This won't effect the workers and this might make company's seek out better banks in the future. Course this wont happen if fed protects all banks so even shade ones can operate. Because this again is the precedent I fear is being set. I do hope this wasn't a bother and thoughtful. I do admit it is hard to not go burn it all or save it all. Good compromise is hard. Welp quest complete time to feed aka back to work. Lol P. S. If links don't work right mostly likely because I copied and pasted from keep notes. Wow took me about 2 hours to write.

Yeah I agree with most of what you said, if the bank is not FDIC insured then they definitely shouldn't be covering it. I would say that it does affects workers though, when companies lose money they cant meet payroll, and the employees are the ones who won't be getting paid.

The average American does not have 250k or anywhere near that in checking account let alone in savings. If you have that much saved up, you're definitely above average Americans, js.
@FanHOTS

Oh yeah I agree with that, I was mentioning more of what people it could be affecting in many of the worst cases. Depends a lot on age too. The average retiree or person thats 50-60 year old probably would be a much different story.
