Mine is bad shape also. I always had issues with it. So glad the hobby has improved since then.

New supporter here from Pusa and wow great channel. My father has a bunc of very old (like 60 year old) model trains that he still gets to work every Christmas. Look forward to watching more of your vids. Cheers!

Thank you very much for this video. I had a Chattanooga choo-choo complete set in the attic and because of this video I got it down and did all the proper maintenance, which I actually learned from you. It is running perfectly forward and reverse the light works and it is actually blowing smoke also! Thank you very much

I remember the tv commercial for this train set. It was based on the Glenn Miller tune.

Tyco also had a "coming around the mountain" set. It's not a bad idea basing these sets off of something already well known.

I seen a cab for that. on ebay under Tyco Chattanooga. ebay. if I remember was like four bucks 4 bucks shipping something like that. Most of the Chattanooga's on eBay look just like that. one . Must be so fast it don't want to stay on the track. lol

Looks like someone drop kicked that Chattanooga, but you brought it back to life. Not the best looking, but it has new life. Maybe you'll find another one to scavenge parts from to bring it back to like new. Harrison, do you have any engines with smoke units that work, and if so, can you run one on your next live stream? Great job once again reviving the dead. I was actually looking at that same Chattanooga today on Facebook Marketplace, waiting to see if it is still available.

Do you think more damage is caused by "age/use" or previous repairs?

Although they are usually stronger, I don’t really like the tender driven steam engines. I prefer them to be loco driven, with loco and tender pickups.
@skiiipawbs4 жыл бұрын
UP4204 same. If the wheels on the loco had the traction tires and the tender had the pick ups, that would be better.

SMT - I wonder if the missing tender wheel set could be replaced with a wheel set from a non-powered truck of a Tyco powered diesel? It looks like the Royal Blue steamer has a similar smoke box/boiler front, cab, & draw bar to the Chattanooga steamer; you could try pressing the R. Blue's smoke box into a block of clay to make a mold & fill the clay mold with tube type model cement. That might work for the cow catcher & cab walls.

the major problems are that some of the wiring is gone , the tyco Spring brushes are gone on both engines and the armatures are going to need to be resurfaced

Monogram Models made plastic display models of some steam locomotives in HO scale. Perhaps those kits may provide cabs, cow catchers, smoke box fronts & other parts that could be modified & used on an operating model if it doesn't have to be original. The rest of the plastic display locomotive kit could be modeled as repair parts or scrap in the engine yard. I also seen similar HO scale display kits for a German steam loco & the Orient Express train at hobby shops & train shows. It may be better to replace that solid wire with stranded wire. Would a wheel set from a Tyco Power Torque diesel work in the tender?

Why I like ho: It’s small Easy to repair It’s cheap on eBay. Why I like o gauge: it’s easy to put on the track It’s fast, And doesn’t brake when a small kid runs it off the train table.

Hey! I just got one of these in pieces with a road number 1261. Got it all cleaned up and lubed and it's running great! Unfortunately the person that owned it prior to me and what I observed ,tried to fix the attachment of the coal tender to the loco which was broken right off with an oversize screw. I was wondering if you can tell me or direct me to someone who knows where I can obtain a replacement shell for the tender to one of these relics. I searched on line everywhere and can't find anything. There was one on ebay for 11 bucks but as usual in most cases I have know idea where they get their highway robbery of shipping costs from because there was no way in hell I was paying 35 bucks to have maybe a couple of ounces of plastic shipped. Anyways I would be grateful to any info you can give me which would lead me to what I am seeking. I know this is a old posting but figure I take a chance and send this message to you. New subscriber to your channel love the videos to the old analog DC's. Cheers!

I get that this video is somewhat old, but I actually have two of these now! I'm currently as writing this comment working on this one I found in my basement that I think my brother owned (which also sadly is missing quite a few parts, but not as nearly as much as yours). I was just watching along with some other videos of these to get a good idea of how they should run. The second one I have I just bought off of ebay but it has a terrible squeal to its motor and needs serviced.

I have one of these in pretty great cosmetic shape, the only issue with that is the boiler cap keeps popping off. I don’t know how well it runs yet as I have no tracks.

Which steps are needed to replace those middle back plastic track wheels with the gears on the inside?
@SMTMainline5 жыл бұрын
You have to remove the cover of the tender, once inside you have to remove two silver "C" clips which hold the back and front bogies of the tender on, next lift the bogies off the the pivots. You can remove the wires connecting to the bogies if it makes it more easy. Next, remove the two screws located on the bottom of the tender's chassis, once removed you can remove the wheel sets you can remove one of the transmission gears. If you're interested in removing all the gears, first remove the small silver gear located on the motor's shaft. to remove it, use a pare of plyers, make sure you don't bite down on the gear's teeth. once removed, you can lift out any gears you want.

This is great, Thanks for the great video. I'm new to this and just got this particular engine for real cheap, it works but needs some TLC which now I know how to, what I don't know is what kind of track I can use on this, like size or brand, looking for something not too big that I can expand later on. if anyone can help please send me a message or respond here, gonna be doing this from now on as my son is really into trains :) Thanks in advance.

Apparently so, it defiantly hasn't had it easy although I sometimes wonder if an engine that has had a lot of play has had a better life then one that was just made in a factory and then put on a shelf.

I have the locomotive for this setup, missing the cab, smokebox cap, and center support for the boiler. But, the smokebox is pristine, the paint is all there, and the wheels are in perfect condition. I'm currently building a motorized tender to drive it, using a cheap to set tender for the shell. Between that, old train pieces, and some scavenging, I intend to have a fully functional 0-8-0 locomotive before the year's up.
@kevincase62023 жыл бұрын
Kind of harsh might just as well drag the model across the concrete floor try a rubber pad unless you like scrapping the finish off your models
