hi, Its Matthew, I was wondering if you could use jack Russel fur for tying flys it is also my birthday on the 7th of Feb. thank you for inspiring me to tie flys
@Thefeatherbender5 жыл бұрын
Hi Matthew, Happy belated birthday. You can use just about any natural material for fly tying but please don't go plucking it from your JR.
@MrRagvid5 жыл бұрын
Your use of packaging material gave me so many ideas! Very cool! Nice fly to. Seems I'm allergic to deer hair unfortunately... any good subs? A good wad of CDC perhaps a possibility for the wing?
@Thefeatherbender5 жыл бұрын
Hi Ragnar, thanks! Many people are allergic to deer hair, its the very small skin particles that remain on the hide. No sub for deer hair but you can get a very similar effect from spinning sculpin wool.

Ok...That is a really interesting use for packing foam. What can you do with bubble wrap, chewing gum foil, and a pigeon? Really well done!

Sweet.. Hey Barry did you get those feathers yet? The weather out here is teasing my fiercely I want to go fishing so bad.. But in this cold I am so stiff I can hardly get in and out of the car.. Now I remember what it was like to be young.. always waiting not patently carry on and thanks.

Thank you very much, yes I did, they arrived today, and are in the freezer until I get back from the UK next week. Then they will be cleaned steamed, paired in bags and then stored in the appropriate place. Not sure what I'll use them for yet, but I am sure I will!

Nice fly, but have you thought of using Kelly Galloup's method of making a deer hair head? It might be easier and neater.
