Hey Davie, looks great as usual and it looks so easy when you do it. It is getting easier for me. I think I need to stick to a pattern long enough to get really good at it. I tend to jump around. I guess I just don't need them yet for fishing so I try a little of everything I see that I like. All the best to you and yours. Sean

Hi Davie. Brilliant video. The fly, as always looks fantastic. With the quill body and the sparse deer hair wing, how do you keep the fly afloat for any length of time?
@DavieMcPhail
@DavieMcPhail 8 жыл бұрын
Hi Melvyn Wood, It will float fine but it would be worth tying a few slightly heavier for the rougher water...I'm glad you enjoyed the video and have a go at one and let me know how you get on... All the very best Davie..

Davie i watch all your videos. they are the greatest!!!! I can't get them down the way you do, but everyday, i keep trying, I think mostly the amounts i'm using per item is way too much that when its all said and done i realize it looks no way like yours!! But perservere i will!!! Anyway my friend, where do you get the wax? Maybe that's my only problem? If i could use that coupled with not using so much material in my flies thinking they have to be these big things the fish need to see. I have to get that out of my thinking. For instance dubbing them to death and such. Thank you for the wonderful lessons. Trying to be a better student here.

Hi Ernie, This pattern you do really need to watch how much material you use as it will affect the feather wing especially though if you need to add more deer hair then make sure you have a space between the wing and the deer hair as the dubbing will help fill the spaces...I use Veniards Prepared Fly Tyers Wax which you should be able to find on the internet if not most fly tying companies have a similar hard wax which would do the same job, using the wax lightly on the thread when needed will help give you grip with less turns and as well strengthen your thread..I'm glad you enjoy the videos and never worry about the look of your flies as they will catch just the same as any that look like a picture.. All the very best Davie

As always, you make it look easy. Very well done and easy to understand instructions. Would you let us know what brand of wax we see you using? I have tried bee's was and find it too hard. Waspish sticks just don't seem to work for me. Yours seems to stay put on your hand. What is it?

Hi Richard Croft, I'm glad you enjoyed the video and thank you of the very kind words as I do appreciate them...I have attached a link to the wax I use, Veniards are a wholesale company so any shop that stock their materials will certainly be able to get the wax for you.. Hi Davie, I’ve been watching many fly tying videos. I love your traditional patterns. I notice that newer patterns like fine or super fine dubbing. You seem to always use coarse dubbing. Is there a reason? Does the coarse dubbing cause the fly to become water soaked and lose flotation sooner than the fine dubbing? Anyway, you have no idea how much your videos have helped me heal. Thank you so much.

Hello Davie... A number of the flies you tie use fox squirrel "mixed with a little rabbit fur". What is the usual proportion of this blend? Mike
@DavieMcPhail
@DavieMcPhail 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Mike, 50/50 mix would be ideal though I have used less squirrel and it's was still ok especially if I'm adding in some UV flash/ lite-brite dubbing... All the very best Davie

A stunning fly as always! Thanks for sharing. I'll be trying this one out. What kind of wax do you use? It looks like it's on your finger?
@DavieMcPhail
@DavieMcPhail 8 жыл бұрын
Hi Hojtong, I'm glad you liked the fly, let me know how you get on with it...I use Veniards Prepared Fly Tyers Wax which you should be able to find on the internet it's about £1.50 and it will last you a very long time...I break off a small piece the size when softened of a small button and keep it very thin so that it sticks to the side of your finger to be used when needed tying your flies..You don't have to do this as you can just keep the whole piece on your desk and apply the wax when you want it.. All the very best Davie

Hi Ayman Choudhery, It's very kind of you to let me know how much you enjoy my videos and I'very happy to hear that you enjoy tying flies..It's a great hobby that will always be with you...I've lots of footage of me fishing which I filmed using a Gopro which I can't use with my fly tying videos due it not being compatible with my software that I use with my camera, which I really need to replace and hope it will be very soon.. Thank you again.... All the very best davie
