Yeah, I was about to comment on that, then I saw yours...I decked for 10 years on heavy tows, LMR, UMR, Ohio, Illinois, couple of years on the Missouri, a trip or two on the GIWW.

Four part all you need
@doughesson2 жыл бұрын
It depends on the river conditions. I worked for one company twice about 19 years apart & their policy changed from 4 parts being good enough to not less than 6 parts using a thicker line. I wasn't apprised of the change until the boss' son got me a written reprimand for using 4 instead of 6 parts.

That's just two underhand turns I believe. They'll work just as well as a half hitch from what I've been taught.

That last one he threw was a clove hitch.

"If you wanna get fancy with it" and throws it 5 ft lmao
@gwalker1734 жыл бұрын
That was easily a 10 maybe 15 ft throw and doubled up like that is generally harder to throw for some people so that was kinda “fancy”. Plus those lines depending on what line it is can be hard to throw.
@brennacanale37314 жыл бұрын
@@gwalker173 negative that throw is simple.
@southerngentleman25163 жыл бұрын
Lol it was a good throw and not simple for anyone of course if you been out there a while it should be do able I would hope any way. Now it can be tough in the winter with a line that's a little wet and it's cold as shit and your using a line that been pulled tight tight tight several times and you done made lock after lock

It amuses me when a new deckhand makes a backing or towing lead around the timberheads by going around the back head & then around the front head to get the lead. I have to demonstrate that you can get the front head - have the boat fall back into the line to get the lead, using as many parts for the line as needed for local conditions, current & the like.
@8dollars2769 ай бұрын
Assuming the boat will be shoving/backing into your line, you should wrap up on the head closest to the fitting on the opposite barge, so you don't have to worry about your leads fouling your dogs bc they're running across that head.
