Can you explain the advantage of using so much material in the fly? Thinking mostly of mallard feathers. The fly looks very nice, but will it fish any better?

I like to fish these particular patterns in a big wave eirikotten, the bigger the wave the better IMHO when fishing an Irish lough 👍🏻👍🏻
