This is the second pattern my grandfather taught me to tie. I'm from Vermont, and have caught many big brown trout on Hornbergs. Nice to see these classic patterns get some attention. Well done sir. And thanks!

Hi Jarret, Thanks. Good to know that there are still people out there that appreciate these older patterns.

Well mister Barry, showing the Hornberg is a splendid idea ! One of my favorite flies, no matter if the season is only beginning or it is about to end. The very first one I tie to the tippet, rain or shine. You are 100% right, this fly always works well in canadian rivers. Perch likes them too. Thanks for the vid.

Thanks for the well tied rendition of a classic pattern Barry! Always loved the way metal tinsel wraps such a nice smooth body! I use the Hornberg "dry" exactly as you have tied it. For a subsurface streamer version, I use bead-chain eyes (hook point rides up between the mallard feathers and calftail) and I substitute the hackle with long soft fibers (usually marabou) and a bit of flash material wrapped in a dubbing loop. Does a great job of imitating a Chub minnow. ATB! Hank

I cast and float it as a dry then I retrieve it as a streamer . Great double duty fly / streamer

Hey Barry. I started tying flies back in '69. I think this pattern has been around at least that long. I still tie some of the old patterns I taught myself back then but I have never tied a Hornberg. Now I think I will, but when you tie in the Jungle Cock should you pull the stems back before you wrap them to keep them more secure or am I just over cautious? Thanks very much for this sir!

You are welcome Kerry. Many different ways of tying in the JC I find this way with a good coat of thin varnish soaks in well and holds them in place.

As always very nice Barry. I have never fished the Hornberg and was wondering if it was a line twister ?

Hi Patrick, thanks, No I believe not its an extremely popular pattern.
