Thanks Barry. I have watched literally thousands of videos because I enjoy watching others tie and create and to pick up on the subtle variance in technique in order to continue to refine my own. You are one of the finest tyers alive today.

I was a fellow Overlake Club member with Larry Smith who developed the pattern. I fished with Larry on the Yakima River and he introduced me to the fly. At the time mylar flash materials were limited to flashabou and a dyed pearl flashabou from Pat at Rogue River Anglers (Cascade Crest Vises and Tools). He told me that their water was so mineral rich it allowed him to dye a bronze pearl that Larry found particularly effective. Now their are a wide variety of mylar strip flash materials. Larry would encourage experimentation with many colors and reflective values. The strategy is classic Gary LaFontaine. Nymphs, particularly emerging nymphs, have light reflective oxygen bubbles clinging to their gills and between exoskeleton layers. LaFontaine would admonish fly tyers to incorporate more flash in their flies.

Great pattern Barry, I like how you tied your V feathered legs in individually for better control, will try that myself next time

Hi Barry! Just a quick question off topic of this video. I’m completely off of Facebook now and don’t have your IM address any longer. When you tie a particular pattern, how many of each pattern and size do you tie? I prefer 3...1 to fish, 1 spare, 1 as an emergency backup or to give away to a fellow fly fisher...

If its not just a couple of flies for a quick trip, always a dozen. Practice makes perfect.
