I spent the weekend tying these up. I even tied some on a double hook for bass. Simple and easy. Thanks for the video

Nice short video, I'll be trying to tie a few of these up. I watched that video of you guys fishing at night too....looked like tons of fun.

Joe, very interesting fly. I've used the old fashion way with tying deer hair on a size 4 dry fly hook and I also got good results on the Delaware in Sullivan and Orange Counties. Best regards, Richard Katzman Fly Tying

I used to think this fly was a lazy mans Morish mouse but I recently became a believer of rabbit body mouse flies. They ride deeper like real mouse and fish is less prone to short strike a slight lower riding fly because it is soaked with water and harder to blow out of the water

I have used these for Bass and Pike for a few years and they are very deadly. They are also durable, I have caught up to 70 Bass on the same fly.

I was tying these very light colors for baby mice, throwing them against grassy banks, worked great

I make these now, but at the last step I don't cut the excess foam off straight, I cut it up to the collar back to front. It splays out and with a quick trim it makes ears, I can sent a picture of one to show you what I mean.

What thickness foam are you using. I’m planning on trying this pattern in Michigan, late at night , after the hex spinner fall. Thanks

What line, leader, and tippet setup would you use for this on a 5wt rod? That's the only rod I have right now and have been wanting to do some mousing. Thanks!
@matthewjames10465 жыл бұрын
Something short and stiff would be best. You want to be able to transfer energy from your rod out to that fly efficiently. If you Google it you'll find most guys don't go much longer than 6' or much lighter than 12lb in the tippet backed by a heavy butt section. Mousing is usually somewhat of an after thought to me so I just end up cutting down my tapered leaders by a few feet and it works fine

Great video! One quick question. Can you tell me what the reasoning is for leaving a tuft of hair on the end of the tail? -Thanks!
@flyfishingeasternsierras86646 жыл бұрын
Kelsey Gallegos just tradition. That's how the morrish mouse, one of the inspirations for this pattern, is tied. I'm not sure the exact reason, if any.
@TheEzzieboy4 жыл бұрын
@@flyfishingeasternsierras8664 I find that the tuft causes the tail to wiggle just a little bit more.

I'm planning to tie these bad boys (or bad mice) and take them to south america to lure some Dorados.

Do you have to use cross cut rabbit or can you use regular cut?
