Owner Gorilla light #2 - cheap at Walmart and a very good hook. I try to buy often at local fly shops, but hooks for intruders are way overpriced frankly, and good hooks can be had at the Supercenter

I'm glad to see you again on you tube. And you surprise me again with a beautiful fly. A question. If I want to tying this intruder in a smaller size. Do I only use the one station?
@theportlandflyshop Жыл бұрын
One station would work just fine. It would be more along the lines of a traditional prom dress, but, nothing wrong with that! That fly is time tested and very effective

Hey Jason, when you were guiding did you use 'guide flies''? simplifying a fly intentionally is just something that'd bother me a so im curious how you handled it. i always feel the more effort (time,looks,design,materials etc) i put into the fly the better i feel about choosing it. i've become so choosy about my flies now, my friends think ive lost my mind. i'll put a fly in my ''razorblade bag'' if a single material type is outta proportion or any superficial aesthetic i find off lol .

I definitely had flies that I didn't like. I tried to have all killer flies, but it wasn't feasible. I was guiding 3 days a week, plus another 3 or 4 in a shop. Silveys tandem tubes from Idylwilde were my guide flies for a long time. Simple, effective and durable.

What total length …. Back of hook to eye of shank do you like?
@theportlandflyshop2 ай бұрын
2-1/2 inches for normal conditions, 3" for dirty water
@gwarren32 ай бұрын
@@theportlandflyshop that’s not including the length of hook ? I like a short steelhead fly but a 2 1/2 “ intruder (total length) would be really small.
@theportlandflyshop2 ай бұрын
@@gwarren3 2 -1/2 to 3" seems to be the sweet spot for me
