Not really. When Africans line up to be crowned by the West, they become doubly colonized. Artists like Olomide, Wemba, Meiwe, Petit Pays made it big in Africa and played the best music. It's okay for the artists to expand their reach but be wary of losing it too. Chinese & Japanese are smart fellas. They guard their own.
@nicolem889
@nicolem889 9 ай бұрын
@@S3bot You're off topic. I'm not talking about Africans staying true to their roots. I'm not talking about the westernization. I'm saying that Tyla winning in this new category will give it the *branding* that it needs to be as good as a category as the other main Grammy category. Who won best country album? Who knows. We only watch for the big three wins, and the performances. Now the African music category can be watched out for as well, and artist will compete for that category.
@S3bot
@S3bot 9 ай бұрын
@@nicolem889 Ok, I get your point. Branding is good. I just caution our people not to lose it all like many artists in USA in terms of the cash. Taylor Swift had to buy back her songs. In reaching wider audiences, it's good to be wise. Tyla did great and deserves her award.

The fact that they played Fela Anikulakpo Kuti’s water instead of her own song is wild 😅. Is it that they don’t know her song? Or they just felt like playing a different water

She won a Grammy, which is important to encourage more Black people to find their place in music and make the music industry a more diverse space. In addition, we have to say that: oh my God, her song IS AMAZING. She deserved all of this.

Grammy doesn’t know anything about Africa. Tyla won Grammy with water but playing legend fela kuti water. It’s a very big shame on academy. Davido has done so well to win this category from sold out O2 areanas and his worldwide hit unavailable has been blown everywhere than Tyla water. But remember drake speech, if you are winning in your hometown you are already a winner.

Im shocked water can beat Unavailable and she actually believes it too lol. True talent know if someone else deserve, even Adele won few years back but still said Beyonce deserved it instead of her

Of course, you Nigerians can't be happy when any other African that isn't a Nigerian wins. If Nigeria doesn't win, then I guess no one else deserves to win.

I love the fact that Tula has stayed original and not trying to impress or trying to be a “wannabe” to fit in with the crowd. Stay original Gurl! Maintain your originality as a SAFA Beauty! Congratulations! Well done Gurl. 💫⭐️🌟💥💥💥🍾🥂… celebrating with you from afar.
